extreme low head speed
« on: December 02, 2016, 12:08:10 PM »
I saw matts youtube on 1000 head speed on e7. I have never flown electric. What is needed and where is best place to purchase all electronics to get this setup going?

If I recall correctly.. that was using the standard set up... but instead of using a 12s pack, he used a 6s pack. The gov can not achieve the 1950(or whatever he had set) headspeed in 6s so it just gives all it can.. which is around 1000.. all u need it use a jumper depending on ur pack/ESC wiring. I'd have to go back & find the video.. Maybe someone else will chime in on the specific details... but I believe that's it. Low headspeed is a different animal, but it is fun!

Well.. I think Matt is on the Scorpion motor.. not sure which.. 500-550kv for this Heli(depending on pinion choice).. I'm a KDE guy myself.. and for the ESC.. I believe he is on the Castle.. you can use either the Talon 120, Edge 120, or Edge 160... your choice.. I prefer their Edge 160HV.. it is a bit heavier than the 120.. possibly over kill with the quality of Castle.. Think he was using the 120.. but as I said.. I've have to reference the video again.. been a while since I've seen it.. but to get the results.. either of the mentioned Castles will work. I use the CGY750.. but only use it's gov on Nitro.. once again.. others may clarify.

That's about all i fly is low head speeds. 1200 to 1700 or so. Both on my E7 and 806. Also I've ran various motors,
anywhere from a Scorpion 4035 to 4530 different Kv's but mostly 450 to 500. The 806 has a 4530 450 Kv  and my E7 has a 4530 500 Kv in it right now. Switch back and forth between 12s and 8s on the 806 and 8s or 7s on the E7.
I don't have much recent experience with Castle ESC's. Running Graupner ESC's now for the integration with the radio. Your setup will depend on if you want to run 12s or 6s, or which ever size pack you want to run.  Also do you want a dedicated low head speed heli, or do you want to swap back and forth different size packs?

I run my E7SE with 716 and my normal mode is 1350 head speed, running a 12s Pulse Ultra 5000mah stick pack and get 16 minutes out of it.  I spend most my time in IU1, which is 1650 and get 9-11 minutes.  Running a Scorpion 4530-500.

How do you control the head speed with 6s setup. Is it done through the CGY750 or otherwise?

it spins 100% wide open because it cannot physically reach the HS set in the ESC. do you don't really control it, but you can figure out what it is by taching it or with some math.

This passed weekend I tried this with my e5s 530 scorpion , my e5 has 626 blades and speed up tail, on 12s. I waited til everyone was gone for the day put the jumper in and a 4400 6s , was lost of fun. Reminds me of scale flying but with aerobatics. I now have to check the cc log to see my head speed my guess is about 1200, my gov on the ikon is set to 2300, guess about half that. Ship is very stable and have good tail control, sounds so cool inverted, you can really hear the mains and tail blades. Great way to end a day of flying.
