N5c main shaft issue
« on: May 14, 2012, 06:47:24 AM »
I noticed over the weekend that my tail pulley (one connected to main shaft) had 1-2mm of back and forth play.  I could hold the head and rotate the pulley back and forth.  When I disassembled everything I noticed that both holes in the main shaft had wallowed out.  I verified that both bolts were correct.  Anyone else notice this?

I have a little play in the pulley on my e7. I haven't pulled the head to check the holes.

I haven't noticed it on mine yet but now I'll double check it when I get home tonight.

The main pulley has a split in boss that contacts the main shaft. The bolt should be tightened enough that the pinching mechanism can work. I have never seen adverse side effects from this bolt being too loose but I would highly recommend tightening down the bolt a little more.
If the flat spot that captures the nut is rounded out from tightening you can grab the nut with a pair of pliers.

Hope that helps,

Matt
