Stronger Belt from FBL Rotors
« on: April 10, 2012, 04:37:42 PM »
All,

So has anyone been running the stronger belt from FBL Rotors?   Ralph included one in my last order.  I can definitely feel the difference in the belts, but not sure on setting belt tension.

I was just looking to see if anyone here is flying this belt and has any advice.

Thanks
Erik

Erik,

Shoot Superyan a PM. He is running one and I know he can answer that Question for you.  ;)

I'm running the FBL Rotor belt with good results. It's a set and forget belt.  I have 144 flights on it already. My E7 is over 11 lbs with Xera 4530 motor and TP 65 5000 packs and the belt can take whatever I throw at it.

It's also kevlar reinforced. I don't know how long it will last, but anyhow I replace all my belts at 200 flights interval, preventative maintenance.

I set it with 4mm left at the end of the boom (protruding from back clamp).

I have one on my E7, now 140 flights on it now and feels like it did when new.
Tension is same as on all belts. Superyan also has one but he flies more his N5 than his E7, therefore he has less flights on it. This belt is reinforced with Kevlar therefore their is less stretching therefore less slapping.

Hi Guys !

This belt is a SUPERBELT !!!

Kevlar
Tensile Strength 400,000 lbs/in2
Elongation at break 2.5%
Modulus 18,000,000 lbs/in2

High tensile strength and low elongation make this material very suitable for timing belt
applications. Kevlar has excellent shock resistance and high load capacity.

Fiberglass
Tensile Strength 350,000 lbs/in2
Elongation at break 2.5 – 3.5%
Modulus 10,000,000 lbs/in2

You suppose to do what you want with this belt on your Heli !

Have Fun !!

Yan

Ralph sent me one with my initial order. It was too wide for the main pulley. Kept binding against the metal top and bottom plates on the gear. Called Ralph and he confirmed he had some that were out of spec.  Waiting for another one to try.

All,

Thanks, I have it installed and have the tension set pretty tight and will try maiden this week.   Are you still spraying Silicone on this belt for lubrication.

What's the difference between this belt and the Mikado one?  My used E7 came with the Mikado 770 belt and I'm trying to decide if I need/should upgrade to the TT.

Been using the Mikado belt on mine for a bit now with no issues.

Use it until it is in need of replacment (hopefully not due to a crash) and then upgrade to the T.T. if you want.
