Finally got Inverted!!!
« on: July 01, 2012, 08:12:09 PM »
I went flying on Saturday morning and took out both N9's. I had a work mate come out with his Canon EOS 450D to take some photos. I have been practicing my inverted on the sim for a while now. I managed on my 6 flights to go inverted for about 20-30 seconds each time ;D. I stayed about 60ft above the ground in case I dumb thumbed. Anyway here are some pics for you.

Now to try and learn some rainbows and elevator tic tocs.

Hi guys,

Thanks for comments. I will keep chipping away and get comfortable inverted nose in, tail in and side on.

My mate was using a polarisation filter on his lens.

A couple more pics of the tough ole' N9. I am running a bit rich as you can see, just like a mosquito fogger ;D.

Really good feeling isn't it?
Also good to see a N9 still in action.

Thanks, it sure is. I will keep practicing and get all inverted orientations comfortable. Then I will slowly bring the height down.

I love the N9, it has been a reliable beast. I am looking forward to the new one.

Thanks the comments Alan. Please post on your experiences. More sim time helps getting the reflexes and brain trained. It all takes time and I want to feel comfortable with what I am doing.

I will try and get some photos next weekend with the machine a bit lower to the ground.

Sim...sim...sim....
I use realflight and fly the E6 and E7.  I run VBar on both my real E6 and E7.
I was doing really well inverted on the sim but had a hard time translating that to the real thing. I did learn to use the pitch pump setting in VBar.  I was having difficulty with altitude loss when I went inverted. Required a lot more negative pitch that I needed with the sim. Pitch pump has fixed that.
The thing I find myself doing is flying high up with the real thing but much lower on the deck with the sim.  I have been trying to fly a little lower at the field.  Makes keeping a constant altitude while inverted a bit easier. Down side is there is less room for error. Practice inverted punch outs in the sim!
Cheers

AAA+++ for You Alan!!! I agree 100% in regards to the Sim training as well as Practice,Practice,Practice.  One of the Most important words of advice I ever got was "Practice ALL Orientations"  Put yourself in situations that you would normally not find yourself in, and Practice your Recovery over and over. It's like Golf. It will turn into Muscle Memory before you know it.. And before you know it you will be cutting grass and not even think twice...

Oh and take a few Deep breaths before you do it.. and just commit yourself and once you go inverted Low to the ground, Just remain calm. I have seen more guys go inverted  and sink and over correct by flinching and dip the tail in or Mains. Including Me!! ;D

For me it's a matter of just getting over the nerve factor. Worked on backwards flight a bunch on the sim. Worked into it slowly with the real thing. Once I realized the sim time payed off and I could actually do it the nerves went away.
Also learning to just live with crashes. It happens :-)

I try and do 20-30 min of sim time at night. I have also found spending as much time in Idle Up 2 helps to get your muscle memory to know the bottom half of the stick is negative.

I agree about the over correct Kevin. I have put the tail in a few times playing around with the mCPX inverted.

Sick man its the best feeling mate. Now you have made it more complicated for yourself and that makes it more fun. GOOD work keep it up.
