i have seen 600 sise helis use 80a secs. Any chance the talon 90 would work? I know Chris might use that. Just wondering if I really need the 120 instead of the 100 or even the talon 90.

A Talon 90 failed and caused an E5 crash at OHB this weekend.  Just a warning. Pretty sure it was a scorpion. 6s of course.

600 size helis running 80A ESCs are most likely 10S or 12S, not 6S.  The higher voltage results in lower amperage requirements.

Yeah I have decided to pass on the talon. And now hearing it failed on. 6s I am going to stick with my Hobbywing 100a and rx pack.

I am going to go ahead and use a hv120 on my 6s setup just to be sure.  Unless of course scorpion gets the 130's out soon. Hearing later this month:-)

Well, that is really unfortunate.  Guess I will definitely go a different route now.  I will start looking at the Jive 100, already has a BEC inside and I will not have future plans of going 12s.

If you go with the Jive 100 with the internal BEC the maximum BEC output is 6V.  Just make sure you select servos that operate within this voltage range.  There are plenty of great servo choices out there in the 4.8 to 6V range.

Hello,

MKS DS670 & DS760 or BLS980 are perfect for 6V BEC. Lots of torq at high speed.
I have them on my 600 great option !

FYI, the torq hv servos run great at 6v on the jive bec.  Ran my 7HV like this for a hundred flights before going 2s lipo.

John, yes you can run most HV servos at 6V (most but not all have a voltage range from 6v to 8.4v) and they work fine at this voltage.  However running a high voltage servo at 6V greatly reduces their speed and torque.  For example, the servos you are are running at 8.4v have 83.28 oz / inch where at 6V have 61.77 oz / inch.  That is a change of 21.51 oz / per inch.  With all servos torque and speed change with voltage.  I'm sure that you were already aware that speed and torque changes with voltage but, there are a number of newcomers to RC reading this post.  My intention was not to criticize anyone's choices but, rather to encourage them to investigate their options.

This touches on a question I have.  I'm running a bls251 on the E5 using the jive BEC.  Looking for a new tail servo on the N5C which runs a 2S LiFe. Would it be better running a 251 with step down, or run a 256 at the 6.6 LiFe voltage?

The BLS256HV is amazing and you could loose the voltage reg.  I have BLS256HV on both of my Synergy birds took a more expensive servo off and replaced it with the 256.

Hello, as Rich said, you would be super safe with the BLS256. I am running the BLS251 on my N5C with the LiFe pack and it is only seeing 6.3v at the nominal discharge voltage. I don't know that it is "officially" rated for this, but it has held up really well.

The BLS251 and BLS254 are both rated at 4.8V according to Futaba.  If we went back into the battery discussion again which is where these voltages were derived from (forced on us would be a better description)  a fully charged 4 cell NiCd battery tops out at 5.4V.  I wouldn't have warm fuzzies beyond 5.4V especially on a high frequency tail servo.  I'm not saying it shouldn't or couldn't be done but, the $20 price difference doesn't justify the risk to a $1700 - $2000 dollar helicopter IMHO.

I was of the understanding that Futaba changed the specs on the BLS251 to be capable of 6V. I mean lots of people run them on 6V with no ill effects.
