Diameter of link rods that thread into the plastic ball links?
« on: December 07, 2012, 07:35:53 PM »
I would like to purchase turnbuckles for the E5.  The E5 uses the same 107-100 plastic ball links used in the E7/E6.  I would like to know the diameter of the 107-043 rods that thread into those plastic ball links.  My guess is 2.5 mm.  The only specification given for the 107-043 rod is that it is 43mm long, but the diameter is not stated.  I am only guessing 2.5mm diameter because the 100-272 set screw of the washout control is stated as M2.5x12 (page 46).

Could someone verify that the link rods are 2.5mm diameter?

Also, what is the inside depth of the 107-100 plastic link?  Since there are no 43mm turnbuckles in the market that I aware of, I would like to know how deep the rod/turnbuckle can be threaded into the plastic ball link before it bottoms out.

John, check out this link.  If this is not what you are looking for I will go and measure mine.

Thanks for the link.  It does not answer the question directly.  However, it does state that the turnbuckles are 3mm threads, and that the plastic ball link holes where drilled to accommodate these 3mm turnbuckles.  This would be consistent with the link rods being 2.5mm.

Still, I would also like to know how deeply the 107-043 link rods can be threaded into the 107-100 plastic ball links.  The manual states that these 43mm long 107-043 link rods are used for both the 3 cyclics and the 2 pitch links.  This would mean that the pitch links with 28mm rod exposed (page 48) would have 7.5mm of thread into the plastic ball link, which is reasonable.  However, for the cyclics with only 19.3mm exposed rod would mean 11.85mm of thread into the plastic ball link, which is quite a bit.

It appears that about 12mm can be threaded into the the plastic ball links.  The link rods are 2.5mm in diameter. My pitch links have exactly 29.37mm of exposed rod.  The swash links have exactly 20mm of exposed rod.
