Castle bec pro question

Hi everyone just wondering the best way to run a castle Ver. 2 bec either off 12s or 6s? For my E7 on the way. I have read a lot of failures off 12s just wondering what would be the safest, thanks!

The best way is to run it on 6S. If you are using two 6S batteries to make one 12S, run the BEC wires only on one battery, make sure the polarity is right from ESC to battery.

I mounted mine on the rear of the heli upside down on the optional rear gyro mounting plate just below the rudder servo. I then ran the power leads down the side of the battery tray and tied them into the series connector so that they pull power from the back battery only.

Works very well and the BEC pro pulls such a relatively insignificant amount of power, the discharge rate between the two batteries shouldn't be far off.

I would recommend you make sure the BEC and ESC are using the same negative batt terminal.

I just found out about this 6s vs 12s for the BEC pro....

But, why do I need to use the same neg battery terminal... I assume you mean, using the same neg from the ESC.

For the first time, instead of using a separate series connector, I decided to just make my own, using the ESC wires,  everything is set up the same way as it would if I were using a connector, but for some reason I can get power to the receiver (FBL unit) while only plugging in one of the 6s batteries...  Which doesn't seem to make sense cause the Neg side of the ESC is not plugged into anything.....   

Did that make sense?  Maybe I should just rip out the CC BEC Pro, and use a Rx battery and one of my extra regulators...

The issue with the ESC/BEC is that your BEC is powering your RX, but you also have the ESC throttle cable plugged into the RX. If the negative wire on the throttle cable, is 0V but the BEC negative is at 25V, you're going to have a short from the BEC negative to the ESC negative. That is why they need to be the same.

The only way it would work is if you opto-isolated the throttle signal.

I actually am taking advantage of the rainy days and redoing my wirering, so don't laugh too hard.  But here is where my FBL controller and CC BEC PRO are mounted.  They will stay in these positions I am just cleaning up the look and rerunning the wires.

I know the CC HV ESC's are mostly all OPTO ISOLATED, aren't the jive's as well? My ICE2 120HV is OPTO Isolated. So this isn't an issue.

I changed my wiring this afternoon...  Originally, I had the CC BEC pro connected to the positive side of my series connector.... after making my own series connector, I connected it to the negative side of the series connector...  Hope that made sense....

Running a helijive 120, with the red wire removed.  Both leads of CC BEC Pro connected to Skookum 720.

On the bench, everything seems normal....  But I think I know what you mean about connecting to the pos side of a series connector... cause when I plugged everything in, with the original wiring, got what can only be described as a short when I plugged in the pos side of the series adapter.... which is why I redid everything... now it seems to work just fine....  Just freaked me out a bit with the short...  you know with Lipo fires and such, I started ripping the wires out when I shorted... (well  think it was a short... certainly made a weird noise, and the plug almost melted (deans) together....  YIKES!  1st time that's happened to me.. although, I usually use WR super BEC, which, as I understand, can handle the 12s setup...  Had the BEC Pro laying around, and didn't have a WR super BEC....  We'll see how it works tomorrow, but I'm sure it'll be fine.  Was able to program the helijive after the rewire...

I did figure it out, thanks...  Made sense.  I just had to change it, cause my first attempt had the BEC pro soldered to the RED lead....  Which may explain the near short I had....  Everything is fine now that it is connected to the NEG side...
