Canopy push pins
« on: January 02, 2013, 12:37:24 PM »
Alright a favorite topic.  What are some of the tips used to get the front canopy mount in a little easier?  I still have only managed to get the rears attached, struggling with the fronts.

Struggling as in the holes don't line up or just difficult to get the pins engaged?

The canopy shape allows it to be easily spread open to engage the front pins and they can be seen looking down from above the motor.  Once engaged in the barrels, simply push until you hear them click and pull on the canopy to be sure they are locked.

I can line them up fine, but cannot get the pins to engage and stay locked.

If you file the surface of the female receiver they will lock more easily.  Filing so the exterior bevel is almost gone worked for me on the back pins.  My solution to the fronts was to install QuickUK magnetic canopy mounts.  The 700N is the right length, but you get two extra.

When your rubber grommets soften a little the connectors will lock in as designed.

Great, I bet its because they are super new and still pretty rigid.

Not a fan of the push pins at all so far. PITA mostly and the pin head is a bit small for me and hurts my thumbs right before a flight.  :o

Will swap front out with QUK mags ASAP.

I am using the QuickUK magnetics on the front.  Much quicker to get the canopy on and off, and one less thing to worry about. :)

For now don't want to buy one extra thing. I'll be patient and hope it gets easier.

Put a drop of triflow on them.. It makes it a little easier to get them in and locked.

Silicone works too and won't degrade the grommet.

I was wonder about the holes in the canopy. The manual states the holes need to enlarged to 8-9mm. How do you guys enlarge? Dremmel? 8mm drill bit?

I just took a knife and turned clockwise.  Worked for me.  Almost the same way you use the Boto sizer.
