Bench electrical set up power source?

What does everyone use for setting up electronics on the bench? I'm hearing that it's not good to use the BEC in your ESC.  Bls 251 and 253 are not high voltage 2s compatible correct. So I need a BEC for the bench or a life pack at 6v?

I usually perform bench setup with either my BEC or scorpion backup guard (if only a quick tweak is necessary). I also have a 1600mAh 6V nimh in my toolbox which i can temporarily plug into the vbar control unit to power the system.

To prevent accidental spool up, you should disconnect two motor leads if using the BEC in your ESC.

I have a 6.6v NiMH rx pack I keep around for initial setups and tuning. I don't like like having the esc powered up when I can help it.

As for setups with BECs, once the bec is set to the right voltage there is no reason I can think of not to use it. Assuming its an external BEC that is.

Do you think the Kontronik 120 HV  needs a backup guard using the internal BEC?

The Jive BEC is one if the best LV BeCs around. But for what a backup guard costs, I would still run one. Cheap insurance.

I've started using backup guards. They are very handy.  I also have a Nimh receiver pack and switch for sit-ups.

I've modified a balance cable extension to just pull off power from two cells on a flight pack.

Not sure if I can do that I think the BLS251 is low volt 4.8v and the BLS253's are 6.0v.

My Kontronik is probably set for 5.6v from what I've read.

Do I need a regulator for the tail? I was putting 6.6v from the reciver pack I picked up for the setup.  Lucky I didn't charge it up to it full charge at 7.2v before using it for set up.

Looks like lot of people on the fourms are using the BLS251 at a regulated 6.0v without reported troubles. Seems counter productive not to follow the spec even if it seems to work?

Leave the bec at 5.6v and run. The tail servo specs are old. It will handle 6v. Hundreds I pilots including myself run them this way no issues.

I don't have any personal experience with the backup back used with Jive. I think it is a NiMH pack and it stays charged to 5.6v by the BEC and if the BEC fails the battery is already in parallel to take over.

I would check out the Kontronic forms on HF or RR to get clarification on that.
