Play in tail blade grips normal?
« on: February 10, 2013, 05:19:29 PM »
Hi everyone,

I just had my first 2 flights on the E5, everything went pretty well which was a relief. I'm not 100% confident i assembled the tail grips correctly, should there be a small amount of play in them when pulled and pushed on their spindle? The reason i ask outside of not knowing if that play should be there is i'm running the vbar governor at 2100 rpm in normal, 2200 in stunt 1 and 2300 in stunt 2. Stunt 2 is introducing a pretty bad tail wag (normal is fine), i tried adjusting it on my DX8 at the field but nothing was really helping. Thanks for the help as always!

I just checked mine (25 flights) and I have just enough play that I can feel them move in and out. So "small" amount is relative.

Thanks for the reply! I took a short video of mine, does it seem similar to yours? IMG 1573

Totally normal. This is there by design.  As long as the play is fairly equal and not excessive you are good.  The E7 and N5c are that way too.

Thats good news, thanks for the help! I'll check my tail settings in the vbar to see if anything is horribly wrong.

As Chris stated.... I designed this play into the grip. The thrust bearing should never be completely pressed together in these types of assemblies.

Thanks,

Matt
