Build question
« on: March 26, 2013, 06:20:54 AM »
Using RJX servos and HC3-SX on my E5. Was going to use the cc bec pro. Since HV servos I am going. To run at 7.4 or 8.4 should I just use a rx pack and skip the bec?

Thanks
Jim

If you are doing HV I would use a 2S lipo for the receiver power.  Are you doing a 6s or 12s setup?  On 6 s I would put the pack up front on a side frame to help with the CG. I have seen the receiver packs mounted behind the main  pack also on the 6s.
On mine I am using a BEC (gryphon) since I am not running HV servos.

Cheers
Alan

BEC or not is a personal choice and each option has their advantages and disadvantages.  On my first E5, I tried a separate 2S lipo receiver battery and strapped it to the top of the front battery (it is a 12S setup) for CG like Alan said.  I left the receiver battery at home a couple of times by accident so I switched over to a BEC.  Now I can't forget an extra battery.  The BEC will also give you a more consistant voltage so it should give a more consistant feel.  I also run a Scorpion BUG so that if I get a BEC failure, I still have a 2S lipo for back up.

If you go with the BEC Pro, I've read that they are calibrated at every .5 volt and if you run them at any other voltage they can be off a fair amount.  I only use Castle BEC Pros in my helis and I run 8.0 volts with HV setups and 6.0 volts in my other helis.

Ok then. 8.0 volts and get a scorpion BUG :-)

I run my RJX HV Cyclics at 7.5 on my CC Bec Pro. At 8.0+ they get a little noisy.  Work great but the servos "buzz" when idle. Seems better at 7.5v.
