Real Flight 6.5
« on: April 04, 2013, 06:49:16 PM »
Just curious about the realism of the Synergy helicopters on the Real Flight 6.5 simulator. If they are anywhere close to real I can't wait to get one of those bad boys. The best flying heli I think out of all of them. Smooth, even, consistent.
I just upgraded my 5.5 to the 6.5 and got the heli mega pack with it. I don't have much experience but I do practice allot on the simulator.  It's starting to pay off.
Nothing like getting real stick time however.  Just flew 4 batteries on my 450 and still getting the big a rush. But landed all 4 flights on a 2'x3' plywood board.  The simulator is paying off.
Just curious

I turned the tail speed down a little and added some weight to the N5c. Flies pretty close now! I haven't played with the E7 much yet.

With a little tuning, RF6.5 and the real e7 feel very similar. Its all about matching the power, weight, pitch, rpm and cyclic rates to your real world setup. Having the sim and real life matched so closely has helped improve my flying significantly!

If you need any help tuning the sim to match your e7 (when you get it) just send me a PM.

What, I'm Greg J.!!! Weird.
Wish they had the E5 on real flight.  The G4 flies well on that sim too

Picked up RF 6.5 flying the E7 and liking it. Seems to fly very similar to my bird. After putting my E7 in in the head thought I better work some inverted skills on the sim before continuing on.

I had been flying it for 20 flights and having a blast with it. Then started working some basics. When I was inverted I noticed in the crash and on the sim my habit for upright flight was kicking in once and a while while inverted. Driving it in to the ground.
Need to break this habit before attempting anymore real inverted hovering.
Doesn't help with the 4525-520kv powering it in with gravity. Very quick!!
Now flying 60% inverted to get over the muscle memory.

RF is great for getting that muscle memory.  Do go back and do all your other maneuvers during a session though.  I have found that If I spend too much time on new maneuvers I start getting sloppy on the old ones. Mix it up a bit.

Anybody try the orientation training? Seems like the flybared heli is very sensitive. I was wondering if its set up right or its just a flybar simulation?
Can't switch models that I know of.

Any possibility of the E5 being added to RF 6.5?

You cant make it pretty real by dialing down your headspeed cyclic controls and tail. But most helis on realflight that are big names are set up super crazy fast and touchy.  Example being the Rave Env tail in realflight 6.5

My E5 actually out performs the E6 and E7 on real flight, so I usually fly with those to train my eye.

For me the best performing Heli on RF is the E720 G4 though.

Barry,

you brought up a very good point, Muscle Memory, So many pilots go straight to trying 3D and attempt to master all the tricks they can, What many don't realize is that they fail to work on all aspects of orientation ( Nose in, Inverted flight. all positions!! I spend more time honing my inverted skills and purposely putting myself in situations only to get comfortable knowing that regardless of the attitude you may end up at, you can without thinking make the right split second decision to right the so called wrong. I was one of these guys that back in the day if I had one little bobble, I would lock up like a computer and the heli would fall like a 3 holed brick. Not bragging by any means but I can tell you I don't crash for the sake of freezing up, I never stop flying the heli if I endded up in a sticky situation.  I tend to do a lot of my flying Very close to the ground and Inverted at that. You will get to a point like Matt, Nick Maxwell and the other Pros, where if they end up in trouble, they don't think when it comes to recovery. they just become automatic and are able to retain there composure.  all tricks derive from knowing were you are at, at all times. I end every flight with a few minutes allocated to practicing my Flying vocabulary.

Excellent point Kevin.

I see so many guys that get comfortable doing one or two certain 3D maneuvers and end up doing that same routine every flight. As soon as they get themselves into an unexpected orientation they are not familiar with... Trouble. Especially in low altitude situations.

Practicing in all orientations and becoming familiar (having a bailout plan), is so important. The rest falls into place.

Thanks Mark,

I didn't mention this but I feel compelled to. Last year October 22nd I was flying at our field. I was the only heli guy there. My father In Law was with me and our club president and VP and his family. They fly 30% Airplanes, Keep in mind our field is Heli/Airplane friendly. I fly airplanes as well. I was flying one of my E7's and was literally 1-1.5 inches off the ground inverted. I had at that point lowered and scrapped the Blades. All systems were go. I had every ones attention for sure. as I raised the heli back to 1.5 inches off the ground I started a slow pirouette.  On the 2nd time around I saw the tail twitch and the tail servo let go. The tail whipped around so fast in the Direction of the Main Rotor, I had a split second to react to try to get this under control. Honestly I stabbed the collective and got the heli in the air. Well in doing that, I inadvertently added an aileron input an the heli went over my right shoulder roughly 8 ft in the air. I followed that machine over my back and it was heading towards the Pits where the club members were.  I had hit throttle hold and still carried a lot of inertia in the rotor. When I noticed where the heli was going, I sucked the heli back towards me and parked it 3 ft behind me on its head. It happened so fast. Making sure everyone was Okay and Keeping My composure not to elevate the situation, I picked the Heli up and went to my station. I couldn't get out of my head 'What Could Of Happened" if it went the other way. And I thank God no one got hurt, But also thank God I practice my orientations with a lot of luck!! If it wasn't for a couple of my Teammates support, I was giving up flying.. People loose sight of what these machine can do! and Better yet how dangerous they truly are.  My advice is Make sure your Equipment is inspected regularly before every flight, and that you Practice for the what if's. It will happen!! that is a fact! just be ready for it.. ;)

Be safe,

Kevin

Late winter/early spring I went over all of my basics again because I realized I skipped a step: backwards flight inverted.  I then decided to work on forwards and backwards flight, inverted and upright, again to make sure I had the basics down.  I still work on things like keeping a pure line. It's sort of like drumming; I see all of my students practicing super hard licks.  But when I ask them to play something basic they freeze up.  That happens more than we all know.
