E5 kit arrives tomorrow .. Goodbye align
« on: May 20, 2013, 02:01:29 AM »
Been flying Align the last couple years as a new heli pilot and although great entry birds I got used to the poor quality control.  I recently pickup up a Protos off the forums  to replace a 450 as my park flyer and was shocked by how much better it was...while the protos was literally in shipping transit I caught the bug and ordered an E5 kit. Ralph over at FBL Rotors has been fantastic to work with and I highly recommend them.

I think I've managed to collect most of what I need for the build if anyone has any other tips they are greatly appreciated.

Scorpion 1100kv motor
Yge120LV ESC running 6S
HC3-SX FBL controller with spektrum sats
Sky Lipo 4400mah packs
Align DS610 cyclic
Align DS650 tail
Rail 556mm mains
Rail 96mm tails

Boto sizer
Boto grease
FBLRotors 5mm ball link pliers
FBLRotos Mat

Great set up, but I must warn you that the E5 is a additive heli to fly.

I've been told on another forum to buy a case of chap stick to deal with the grin :-)  Last season I flew a Trex 550 and it was a nice bird, but the E5 looks to be a much more refined machine

Welcome to the Synergy Family! That looks like a great setup there! Let us know how the build and maiden goes!

Jeff

Glad you liked the Protos.

What is the voltage output for the bec on the YGE?

Check the HC3SX forums and sat cutouts if BEC voltage drops below 5.5V

Enjoy the build.

I'm using strait 2s Lipos for RX and servo power on my E5.

Ya the Protos is a blast... loving it.  I stuck an MSH Brain on it and I'ts been fun getting it dialed in.  I'll check on that voltage issue. Thanks for the heads up.  I do have a Scorpion backup guard en route which I would hope would protect me from a voltage drop issue, but maybe not?

The YGELV120 specs for the BEC say  5.7V / 7.4V / 8.0V, 6A continuous, 12A peak.

Should I be concerned?

The issue with the HC3SX with spek stats is signal loss if voltage drops below 5.5 volts. I don't know why since the sats get 3.3 volts from teh gyro but it's covered pretty well on the Helicommand/Bavarian Demon forum.

If you servos can take 7.4 just set that for your bec output voltage and you should be good to go.

I could be wrong the the scorpion backup guard outputs 5 volts, if so that would not be enough.

This 5.5V limitation is not only with Spektrum sats.  I have seen the HC3-SX reboot with SBus receivers when the voltage drops below 5.5.  This is from personal experience. Always run two power sources into a HC3 if at all possible.  Again from personal experience.

Cheers

Alan, regarding your comment of running two power sources into the controller, would you run BEC and a backup source into it or how would you do that? Forgive me if I'm misunderstanding, for example the Castle BEC pro has 2 outputs for voltage and I realize both of those could be run into the FBL controller is that what you mean?

That would work as that's how I have mine set up. The main point really is that most of those servo size wires can't handle high amp loads especially for extended periods so if you have two leads running to the unit you split the loads equally to allow a constant draw and no spikes or drops if say both cyclic and tail servos both demand high current at the same time.

Got it!. So the YGE120LV has two leads, a master and a slave so i think that would work the same way.

I'm not familiar with that controller but as long as it's output is the same voltage on both leads and both can handle the same amperage you should be good.
