Kontronik Pyro 700-45...
« on: October 03, 2011, 06:10:51 AM »
Howdy...

Well, I can tell you all the Pyro-45 regular shaft is NOT long enough.....

Does anyone know if the Long shafted version will be long enough../???  I'm guessing it would be, since the regular shaft seems to only be about 10mm, too short....

Either that, or I can run the new KDE 495 motor...

Who likes what, using a Jive 80HV?

Loved this build so far....  Except for a few niggles....  Started putting the tail boom on....  When I built my N5, I forgot to put on the heat shrink tubing on the pushrod...

This time I forgot to put the pushrod through the pushrod guides, before I put the links on...  hehe

Also, on the motor bearing block, the holes on one side of the frame are just a tiny bit too small to be able to easily slide the bearing block back and forth....  Not a big deal, and I can take a file to the opening....

So far so good.... (except for the whole pyro 700-45 regular shaft thingy.....)

Yes the long version shaft will be long enough. The only problem with Pyro motors is you can't buy replacement parts, you need to send it back to Kontronik to get them to change it. I've installed a Scorpion 6mm long shaft in mine and it works great. The other problem is I'm not sure Scorpion still makes these long 6mm shafts, it was a 4020 if I remember well. Good luck.

Yes the long shaft will fit. I am using the Kontronik Pyro 700-45L with the Jive 80hv in my E7 set to Mode 4. I am very happy with the performance of this set up! I think you will be happier with this motor than the KDE 495.

@breezyjr -- good to see you on here! I was ready to mount my Pyro 700-45 last night and ran into the same problem.  >:(  I'm hoping my LHS has a long-shaft version I could swap. If not, I'll have to figure out a "Plan B" because I'll be using either a Jive or YGE 120+HV, and I think the max-kv motor I want with to use with the 14T pinion is around 450 kv.

And I'm with seldred -- I think you'd be happier with the Pyro.

You could also use a piece of hardened 6mm shaft sold in 3ft or 30 inch lenght at Mccarr and such. You may have to sand it to exact slip fit. I heard the shaft is exactly 6.00mm.  Cheap alternative though. Like 12 bucks for 3 feet !

The Pyro 700-45 comes in 3 variants.  So the 'regular' version is too short.  I don't own the E7 kit yet, but I would like to know how long the motor shaft needs to be.  Would I need the 700-45M or the 700-45L?

My LHS shop had the Long Shaft in stock.. so I just swapped it out....  It fits fine, with some extra shaft to spare...

Can't wait to maiden tomorrow... (Thursday!)  Would have been today if I didn't have a problem with the wiring...

Later,

@ Tenguru  I believe the manual states 31 or 32mm long for the motor shaft....  yes the "normal" 700-45 is too short, only fits half way into pinion... the long shaft fits fine, and has plenty extra....
The 45M may work, but I don't know the measurement off the top of my head....

About to go and do it now.....  Beautiful weather, just need the annoying neighbor who asks too many questions to go back in her house..... Then flying can begin....

Thanks,

How'd it go?????

I can actually go hands off hover for almost 30 seconds....  maybe more if the wind isn't blowing at all.....

And, that's without using the self leveling on the skookum 720....

My daughter took some video, I'll have to U/L to youtube, and post it....

Most impressive heli!  I love it!

Just a little heads up on the Pyro.

I ordered the 700-45L (item 274141), but received a 700-45LS (item 274142).
I was initially thinking this was just a new revision of the 45L or something, but no.  :'(

The LS version has only 30mm of the shaft protruding (45L has 38.5mm), so this one will not work.
It just barely dips into the counter bearing, no good.

I'm getting mine replaced now, just wanted to warn you all.
