Need help with E7 tail hub assembly problems
« on: June 18, 2013, 05:46:58 PM »
The E7 is my first solo build, relatively straight forward and enjoyable up until the tail hub. The pivot ball in the bell crank was stripped on arrival, requiring epoxy repair. Upon disassembling the tail grips, I found that the radial bearings were oriented in opposite directions on each side of the grip, and they were exactly opposite orientations of those in the grip on the opposite side. Not only am I unable to determine which direction the radial bearings should be facing on either side ( the pictures are not detailed enough), I am unable to remove the bearings closest to the center of the shaft on either side without (I fear) damaging them. Please help!

I am finding it hard to picture what you are stating. As in the radial bearing were in opposite directions.  The Radials are not direction or orientation dependent.  Are you speaking of the Thrust bearings?
If you are having difficulty removing a radial bearing you can gently heat up the grip.  That will usually allow them to push out easily.  The only bearings you will need to lube are the thrust bearings.
If you will PM me I will be more than happy to send you a replacement pivot ball.

Cheers
Alan

The radial bearings are a tight fit and as Alan said, not directional. I use a heat gun and warm the grips for a few seconds and they usually push right out just like Alan said.
