E7 keeping parts ready, crash parts?
« on: June 30, 2013, 07:59:58 PM »
What do people keep in stock at there own hangar? I like to keep parts ready for action!

Thinking about placing an order for some crash parts, boom, supports, gears for TT and skids anything else you guys can think of just trying to be able to keep flying if I have auto tip over or something at funflys?

You could always order a spare kit so you know you have what you need. ;D Kidding aside I was considering getting a TT conversion kit for spare parts.

I'm serious...  My spare parts collection is freaking ridiculous right now.  I've been trying to figure out a decent way to organize it because it's a PITA going through all these little bags trying to find what I need.  Two weeks ago I decided to add to my spares and placed a spare parts order that was almost exactly the same total price as buying a new E5.  Hopefully it will keep me in the air for a week, or two, anyway.  :o

Since we don't have a dealer close to here, I keep many parts. Sometime provide (don't sell them) to my friends who needs them and they order me replacements. This way we are back in the air within days.

Rodney, we keep spare parts in those tubs that slide under the bed, like a big tup-o-ware. Fits 700 booms and blades in it. And that's how I seperate it for each heli, 700 bin, 600 bin etc...works out well

I was going to put up a peg board and hang them all but then my wife would realize just how many parts I've bought, LOL.

Rodney,

Let me also make a suggestion, I had a wall of shame when it came down to my Crashed Main Blades. Well when she ordered a set for me from Matt she remembered the WALL OF SHAME and added up the Blades, Lets just say I dispose of them now.. ;) That went over like a soup Sandwich.. I went through a Spell where I had the Shanks, Every time I ordered parts from Matt, (WEEKLY) he would send extra. If I ordered a tail boom he sent me 3.. DO NOT LET YOUR WIFE GET AHOLD OF THAT INFORMATION!!

Best,

Kevin

That is what I have been doing here.  We have a pseudo dealer but he only orders parts when people need them.  Typically not before the fact.  I loan parts and get them to replace back to my STOCK!  At last check I had over $1000 retail in parts not including blades....

I have my smaller parts in four stackable Stanley parts containers (see photo).  The are available at Lowes and Home Depot.  Each one has certain aspects of the heli.  One for bearings and gears. One for tail parts.  One for frame parts, small misc hardware and skid nuts, etc.  Another for head parts and all of the various shafts.
For the main gears, Skid tubes and landing gear I have a tupperware  tall container with a handled lid.
For long items I tried the long thin tupperware tote but it was much larger than needed.  I now just use one of the shipping boxes the blades come in.  Takes up less space in my truck as I carry most of my spares to the field with me.

I have a 3-drawer plastic cabinet that I keep most of the spares in but it sometimes takes a bit to dig through all those same-size packages to find the part I'm looking for.  It's just my enginerd side taking over, wanting everything to be separated, neatly organized, and indexed...

I keep pretty much the same parts you guys do with the exception of keeping a spare E5,N5,E6/E7.  Nothing in regards to the E7se. When I go in I go Big.. lol  Like Alan I keep a large inventory, I start each flying season off by making a sizable order and run off of that for the first week.. ;D . Rule of thumb is , if you crash and break or bend it (Buy 5) to replace it...  (I always make sure I keep at least one FBL head and Swash as well. (Servo Horns are a must..
