Should I be looking at an OS105 instead of the YS91?

The reason some of us are going the 91 engine route is for the different fuel required for the 105. I just want to carry 30% not 20%and30% to all the events I attend.

The O.S. 105 can be run on 30% Nitromethane if needed. It would require additional shimming under the head. I personally know guys running 30% with great success.

15% - Stock, no extra shimming required
30% - Extra shimming required

16 thou under the head should be good for 30%.

15% - 20% with stock shimming seems to be the sweet spot though.

Cheers,
Mark

Nice Darren. Which pipe did you end up going with?

Haven't made a final decision yet, but it's either a Powerboost or this Hatori #968.  I'm on a budget so buying used.

I'm thinking of going this route.  The cost difference between 20% and 30% is only like $5/case.

This is exactly my predicament, I regularly fly my awesome N5cTT with a YS56 and Hatori pipe on 30% nitro. I have about 12 gallons of stuff here, and I did not want to start buying 20% for a 105.

I have sat here a barely run in YS91srs (I think you guys in the US call it the YS91 3Ds?) with a matching Hatori pipe. So I guess I'll use that for now and then get a 105 during the year next year, and add the shim and run it on 30%.

I would rather buy the same fuel for both Helis, and the YS56 is on fire right now (well I hope not!!) on 30% Optifuel.

I am in the same boat with fuel. I have 8 gallons of Coolpower 30% and no easy access to 20%.  I plan to shim my 105 for 30%. My good friend runs his 105 that way on his 700N. Plenty of power and flight time is still more than 5 minutes.  May not be ideal setup, but a good start until I can find some 20% locally. or at a major event in the spring.
