E7SE tail kick during aileron tic tocs
« on: August 26, 2013, 08:49:49 AM »
Hey guys,

Just finished an E7 build not too long ago and have just become comfortable to start pushing it. I'm running 2050 on the head, 106's on the tail at 4.9 gear ratio. During aileron tic tocs tail kicks to the right (nose left). It gets worse the lower the headspeed. I've gotten is better messing around with precomps in the vbar, but is there anything else I should be trying here?

Also have a monster motor in there.. Scorpion 4530-540kv so I'm sure that isnt helping the torque issue...

How is your overall tail gain set up?  Did you increase to the point of wag then back it off?  Have you tried increasing the tail gain in addition to the precomp?  Yes probably a torque factor.

If I remember correctly I am at 90 in the vbar. I did fast sideways passes until I heard the tail get angry then backed it off a little.

I'm running 696/106 combo. It's funny that I had these EXACT blades on my whiplash and had the same result with the KDE 700XF-495. Should I try 110's on the tail.

Okay.  Sounds like the overall gain would not be it.  How is your linkage.  Nice and smooth?  Did you size the tail pitch links?  I have used VBar in the past but not currently.  Someone else might also have some ideas.

The whiplash links were sized and it still did it. The E7 links are not sized. A little tight but with the BLS256HV it doesn't exhibit signs of binding like wagging.

I think this is a torque issue. Tail flies perfect in every other maneuver... Might try upping tail size. It's just funny cause this happend in another heli, same blades, and a high torque motor. I have an AVant nitro with the 696/106 combo and it does fine..

I had the same problem with my E7. What I had to do is rase my precomp.

Cool. I'm going to try precomp and a mix of tail blades. Hopefully I'll get this tuned out.. Thanks guys!

Think I found my answer! I used the biggest futaba wheel I had which only gave me 15mm on the servo horn. The recommended is 16mm which guys are saying is still too much resolution and they are using 18mm for quick tail response. I'll give it a shot and check back in case anyone else is having the issue....

First. Be sure your tail control is very free and smooth. Size your tail pitch links.
It would also help to know what FBL unit. Tail blade size? What have you already tried.

Im having a bit of an issue also on my SE. links are  free and smooth thanks to Ralph. When I do fast pitch changes the tail always kicks left. But im running a 200A Kosmik cool and a Pyro 750 competition motor with 716 and 116 tails. Im running Vbar also if I find something that helps ill post back

Is your pitch slider centered when the servo is at center?

Have you tried playing around the the I & P gain in the Vbar advanced menu. I usually run them both at 75 with my E7SE and then lower my torq comp. It may be prudent to raise the acceleration in the tail menu for better response. After you make these adjustments you may need to lower the main gyro gain slightly. I run a BLS256 and my tail is awesome.
