Futaba BLS255HV servos on E7SE -- good choice?
« on: September 12, 2013, 01:16:27 PM »
I am using the Futaba BLS255HV cyclic servos on my E5 and E5s.  These servos work very well on both of those helicopters.

I am wondering if these servos have enough torque to handle the much larger E7SE swinging 696/106 blades.  If not, what other cyclic servos do folks recommend?

That is the model servo many on the Team run. I just put a set in my newest E7se build.

You are good to go :)

Thanks Chris.

I decided to keep the Whiplash, so I'll leave the MKS servos on it.  I just wanted to make sure the Futaba BLS255HV servos would be adequate for it.

Again Chris, I appreciate your response.

The Futaba BLS255HV servos are an excellent choice, these are what I'm running in my E7SE. They are smooth, powerful and precise. Awesome servos!

Any feedback on the RJX HV servos?  They seem to have impressive numbers, but not one of the "name" brands I am use to...

I have the Futabas on an E7. Best servo around!
I do have some MKS HV's I will be using on the N7. I here good things about those.
I have a set of the RJX also that will be in an E5 stretch shortly.
My other E7 has Savox HV's. they are okay but I do feel the difference with the Futabas and the Savox are definitely power hungry. The Futabas on the E7 will typically draw about 6 amps peak. The Savox typically are around 8amps.

Cheers

Out of curiosity since the 255HV/256HV are becoming a little harder to find, what Futaba servos are their replacements?  I am starting to realize the Align BL700H/BL750H servos are not up to the Outrage Torq, but the Torq have been around for a while, so I am thinking a more up to date servo might be worth trying...

I don't know about the BLS256HV tail servo, but the BLS272SV servo seems to have similar specs as the BLS255HV, but also seem to have all metal gears and programability.  So perhaps that will be the replacement servo.

According to the information i have to had the new 'SV' range from futaba is the current replacements for the servos listed, these have identical or improved specifications.

The Futaba BLS255HV is replaced by the Futaba BLS272SV (Dedicated Helicopter/Cyclic Servo)
The Futaba BLS256HV is replaced by the Futaba BLS276SV (Dedicated Tail/Gyro Servo)

Hope this helps,
Cheers,

They're great servos but they're definitely proud of them.

Looking at some of the US web sites, the 255HVs were $159.99, and the BLS272SVs are $169.99 - not that much of a difference.  Or could the 255HVs be found for a lot less?

I just purchased 3 of these and installed on my E7 and I am very satisfied,  these in combo with a bls256 draw no power at all.  The other day I flew twelve 5 min flights and put 1500mah back into my 2200mah pack!  Here is a link   http://www.heliproz.com/FUTM0735-BLS175HV-S-Bus-Prog-Hi-Torq-Servos/productinfo/FUTM0735/

I also found some bls255 on ebay believe it or not $149.99

I have also been running the 255/256 combo in my E7 SE.  Unfortunately when my ESC/BEC ignited a couple of weeks ago it took out the servos.  I should have the replacements back from Hobbico the first of next week.  They gave me replacements for $98 each.  Not bad considering that isn't covered under the warranty.

I do like the 255/256's and I did note a difference as compared to the Savox HV's in my other E7.  I now have MKS in that E7 SE and the Futabas will end up in the N7.  I am interested in seeing how the MKS compare. Hopefully I will get to try them Sunday ;D

Cheers
Alan
