so... since this year's august i have been bitten by heli bug! :) (before 2.5 years into planes)
i have been flying nano cpx, mcpx bl, 130x and 2 month ago got myself a protos 500, and now want to move into something a bit bigger, where i could share batteries with further future project of 700-800 heli... i think i have narrowed down a choice to synergy e5 mostly due to its ability to take BIG batteries and due to this very nice and helpful forum. so, my questions...

1. can it take http://www.gensace.de/lipo-battery/helicopter-lipo/7s/gens-ace-4400mah-25-9v-65c-7s1p-lipo-battery-pack.html this battery? i kinda like pulse batteries, but here in europe we cant exactly get them that easy, so im a big fan of gens aces... (and actually which would be the biggest battery this heli could take? ) and yeah, i know i dont 'need' 65c, but still...

2. since im planing on 7s setup, it is quite likely i could get nice deal (almost half price) on scorpion HKIII-4025-730. Mr Mels headspeed calculator says that with 14t pinion it would give me up to 2400hs... it sounds reasonable, no?
 if that deal fails, im looking at either HKIII-4025-890, either PYRO 650-83 (830kv)... am i going about it in the right direction? or for 7s i should be looking somewhere into another kv range?

3. im aware of stretching to e6 on 12s, but just out of curiosity,  how about stretching to e7? what would i need?

most likely when i get the kit i will have a lot of other questions, but so far thank you for letting me ask those 3! :)

Why 7s?  That is an odd configuration.  If you are wanting to share batteries with a larger Heli down the road running 6S makes more sense.  I use 6S 4400's on my E5-550 and am able to use them in the E7 also at 12S.


2300-2400 should be your target head speed for an E5-550.


Stretching the E5 to an E7 can technically be done.  Your challenge will be to get the CG right.  The batteries will need to be pretty far forward to accomplish this.  I do believe some have played around with it but I personally don't see the need.  The E7 SE is an awesome machine.

I'm flying mine on 7S 4200, but 4400 would be better, due to increased flight times. I went with 7S because I had a Scorpion 4025-890 lying around in my heli stuff. Flies great with this setup, I like it.

Flyalan is right though in the sense that this is a weird configuration but works really well.

Yes I was actually in the same situation initially.  My first one was 10S because I have the right scorpion motor around from my old Furion 6 and also had two 10s packs in good condition.  Said bye bye to that when the batts died.

 My E5 should be delivered Friday. I'm stretching it to 696 Rails and 7S 4400's. Going to use a 480 Kv motor with probably a 14T or 15T pinion. Been wanting to do a E5 super stretch since first flying a E7 at lower head speeds.
Mr.Mel's calc calls for around 1500 RPM with the 15T pinion. My reason for 7S is i have 7S packs from my 14S E7.
Not exactly the same set up as you are doing but should be fun.

why 7s? because im not sure will i go for 700 heli or 800 heli in the future, if 800, 14s would make more sense to me, if 700, well, there can not be too much power, no? :) and more cells = less amps,so better for  power system and easier on batteries...

i was just curious about super stretch! :) thanks!

One thing to consider. 14S setups are the exception not the norm.  Costs go up exponentially with a 14s setup.  I have seen a few folks go this route and some go back to 12S.  Your ESC choices are much more limited for 14S. If you have deep pockets by all means experiment. Not trying to discourage you but point out the downside.
Also the options for an 800 setup currently are also limited.  I am just not sure if 800 size heli's are going to become more popular.

well... i just did a bit of reading and realised that cc hv esc does not support 14s... that's a bumer!

esc... if i have to spend up to 400£ for servos, up to  300-400£ for motor and up to 1k for heli, i could not imagine putting in for esc anything but the best.... :) (and as far as i know, YGE can re-programm their  (320A?) esc to accept even 16s..

anyway, appreciate you trying to talk me out and its still around 2-3 months before i will be into buying motor and batteries...

p.s. my pockets is by all means not deep! so one month heli+esc, next month-servos+ motor, next month another fbl+battery, another month another 2 batteries, an i will be set...

p.p.s. after doing some reading in forum, seems battery h-w maximum is 65mmx52mm so either 7s 4400 either 6s 5000 should be doable...

I have run Haiyin and Sky Lipo 5000mAh 6S batteries in my E5 and they both fit.  The Haiyin batteries are pretty large (52X56), but they do fit.

I was also running the Haiyin 6S packs until I switched to the FBLrotors battery trays.  The Haiyins are just a tad too think with the velcro on.  Right now I'm using the Glacier 4500 packs from BuddyRC.

I run 7s in both my E5s (606’s\Scorpion 4025-890kv\Ikon gov - 1950 head speed {2100 idle up two but rarely use it} 6 minute flights, plenty of power) and My E7 (716’s\Scorpion 4225-550kv\Ikon gov – 1100-1400 head speed 8-12 minute flights, this is a very over looked, light and powerful motor). I am not a power monger, both of these setups have plenty of power but they are not 10,000 watt setups if that is what you are looking for. I run Pulse 7s 45c 5000mah packs with no problem in either and room to spare, I do not use a battery tray, just the stock setup http://www.helidirect.com/plu45-50007-pulse-lipo-5000mah-259v-45c-ultra-power-series-p-28186.hdx Dimensions: 158mm x 45mm x 57mm  (LxWxH). I initially went with 7s to balance my low head speed E7 to avoid hanging a 6s pack out so far to get CG. Most of my friends around here have tried both (all better pilots than I), and enjoy both setups. Having ran my previous Fusion’s on 12s and 6s both in 550 and 600 configurations I would strongly suggest if you’re looking for powerful setup go 12s. If you’re looking for solid setup with plenty of power and plan to go 14s on a bigger setup at some time I would say that 7s is an option. When my E5 was a 556 I ran 6s 45c 5000mah very close to the weight of your 7s packs and I thought it was quite the power house @ 2400 head speed. I am not a smack flyer but more of a big air/smooth flyer. I think you will enjoy being a part of the Synergy family, welcome!

so... seems like i have finished talking to a scorpion CS... i could get scorpion 4025-890 or 4035 in 870-900kv custom wind for 30$ more... i know i most likely dont NEED 4035, but still...

 ??? im on the fence... yeah, i know, 4025 is adequate (and lighter than 4035) motor with gobs of power... but also a lots of heat, no? and if someone is piggy-fingered on collective?

what would be downsides to 4035? less flight time? heavier would i need bigger esc than cc120hv? can drive train take it? (i guess that depends on governor setting lol)

than of course there is PYRO 650-103L... 60g lighter than 4025, and even a little biger power output...

if PYRO 600 would come with long shaft, i would grab that one without questions... :) a bit more than 100g lighter than 4025, and similar power output...

im having a headache thinking about motors... :)

p.s. at least i have decided on rjx servos and cc120hv (or yge 160 if im crasy enough to get pyro 650 or 4035...)

As far as the drive train... It will handle any motor that will fit between the frames, no problem.
