Scorpion 4525 or 4530?
« on: November 03, 2013, 03:28:27 PM »
I am thinking about trying out a lighter motor than my KDEs and at the top of the list after reading this forum are the Scorpion 4525 520Kv Ultimate or the 4530 500Kv Limited Edition.  Admittedly I know very little about the Scorpion motors, so any information/advice would be greatly appreciated!  It seems the 4530 has a little more power with a 62 gram weight disadvantage.  It sounds like Matt flies the 4525, but he has perfect collective management!  The 700XF weights in at 645g (685g with wires and connectors), so either put it in a diet!  Decisions, decisions...

Hi,

The Scorpion HK4525-520 Ultimate is a great match for the E7SE, it works very well with the 121T main gear and 12T pinion.

I run this particular motor in both my E7SE's, great motor and works exceptionally well.

Hope this helps,
Cheers,
Ross

I love the 4530 series. 500kv is a great match for the new main gear ratio as well.. the ultimate is a beast for sure!

Chris,
Are you running the 12T with the 500Kv?  I am running the 13T with the KDE 495Kv for 2150 head speed.  Also, I assume not much of a difference between the 500Kv and 540Kv except which pinion to run?

12t pinion and 2050rpm governed. Pulls so hard. 13 degrees of collective and 6 minutes of hard sport big air. Love it!

So, it kind of looks like if I want the 4530, get the 500Kv for 2050 with the 12T pinion or the 540Kv for 2150 with the 12T pinion, by my calculations on Mr Mel's calculator?

4525 520 gets 2050 no problem. 2150 is doable as well.

I was kind of thinking that I would go with the 4530 - just trying to decide between the two Kvs 500 or 540?  They look to be the same power and all...

Ok, back to the 4525 520 Ultimate (waiting to see if I can find a deal on Black Friday)! Is a Castle Edge 120 HV enough ESC for this motor, or does it really need a 160?  I am really just trying to shave weight after running an Ice2 HV120 and 3300 12S batteries just to see what it would feel like, I really liked it, so now just thinking how to get the lightest setup...

If your looking for lighter weight, but insane power, have you looked at the specks on the Kontronic 750 and 800 Pyro motors? Light, powerful, and expensive!!

Scorpion 4525 Ultimate on mine.

i was also looking at the nick maxwell edition and the ulitmate...what tooth pinion would be good for the older main gear? then agin i might as well upgrade in case I strip the old one in a crash or something...

2150 is my headspeed I want on either motor...looking to buy one soon or begginning of next year hopefully

Guys,
Thanks for all the help!  I ended up going with a Scorpion 4525 520Kv Ultimate, and at the same time I changed out the Align HV servos to Torq BL9180/9188s.  I got in about 10 flights today (perfect day in Texas), and the motor is very nice!  I am running the Glacier 4400 45C 6S batteries with heat shrink on them to make a home made stick pack.  Can't wait to start again in the morning (Sunny and 70 degrees - don't be jealous)!

Well, I liked the 4525-520 so much that I went ahead and ordered the 4530-500 LE - all I can say is wow, love it!  I would be interested to know if anyone is running the 4530-540 LE and what their thoughts are on it...

I still love my KDE 700XF-495Kv motors, but you can tell the weight different right away!

I am running the 540 LE and it's a beast for sure.
Short flight times and some serious amperage spikes however.

I currently get around 3:40 flight time using 5000 mah 65c packs at 2150 HS on the e7 se.

Mark

Edit: I should add that the motor you currently have has a much better flight time / power ratio.  I myself will be swapping out and using my 520 ultimate for the new season for the reasons stated above.

Mark,
Sorry which motor, I have the 4525-520U on one and the 4530-500LE on the other, and am not a heavy 3D flier, but today was able to get 5 minutes out of both (Glacier 4400 45C and Pulse Ultra 4500 45C) returning around 20% on each?
