used e7
« on: November 21, 2013, 02:00:13 PM »
so... instead of e5 i went with n5c. it is not finished but im already thinking about something bigger! :) today i noticed used e7 TT airframe for around 60% price of new... is it worth it?

as far as my understanding of differences of e7 and e7se,

i would (now or eventually) have to get e7se main gear and pinion?

and i would want to lover the head ( e7se main shaft+head block?)

the rest of se upgrades i can allways put after crash... :)

well... i dont think i can (here in uk) get a 40% deal on a kit... :)

and yeah... if i would have not seen this advertisment, i would have finished my n5c this month, now possibly it will fly after christmas...

and if i already know that i will go bigger than 600, i think there is nothing wrong with getting kit now and building/upgrading kit later...

I think it is worth it. The standard E7 is not inferior to the E7se, just a bit different. I have over 775 flights on my E7 and I've only changed out one bearing, that is it. E7 for 60% off go for it.

60% isn't bad I paid full price for my kit last year and bought another for %50 a month later. I do like the new se gearing with my 520Kv motor.

I flew my original E7 for many many flights before I went to the updated head, pinion, and main gear.  Even then, the only reason I changed them out was because I destroyed all those parts in a spectacular crash and had to replace them anyway.

hmm.... im spinning possible setups in my head... 6 or 8mm pinions? i would really love to go 14s, (i know, i dont need to, but i just want to!!) but high c rating battery choices is really limited, and esc, as far as i know only yge or kosmik... :( (didnt yge had problem with startup kick?)

so thinking about setup, for 12s, possibly

motor: pyro 750 or scorpion 4530LE (Still thinking about kv...) do i need long or short shaft?
esc: cc160hv (i have read some bad reviews about kosmik 200 and to pay 550£ for esc, there can be no bad reviews lol)
servos... quite likely rjx on cyclic and rjx or mks x8 on tail depending on budget...
fbl: Ikon/brain or sk-720black+gps depending on budget...

if im crasy enough to go 14s...
motor: pyro 750-450 or scorpion 4530-450LE
esc, yge 160... (can a ham-fisted guy get trough with 120A esc on 14s? if so, than possibly  helijive 120)

im quite a bit stumped on batteries... i LOVE gens ace, hate pricing and balance leads of thunder power, (and quite frankly dont think that apart from 50% crash replacement they justify the pricing), cant get my hands on big selection of pulse...

so basically im down to 4400mah 60C gens aces, either 6 or 7s... i know, i dont NEED 60c, but when flying my protos500 on old 25c nano tech/new hyperion 35c, and after putting in gens ace 60C, power difference is quite stellar!

p.s. sorry... looks like im starting another long thread like about n5c!

p.p.s you newer know.. maybe that guy will get a better offer and  sell his e6/7 and ill be just finishing my n5c...

soo! just unpacked my kit! was thinking to build slooooooowly, because it will fly earliest in april, but just couldnt stop and put together frame already! :) tail gears is smooth as silk, but torque tube front gears seems to either have too tight mesh, either a high spot or something... is there a way to loosen them a tad, or it is just go and fly type thing?

and when i got to the main gear and autohub... which orientation does the delrin shims exactly go? one on each side as per belted manual? it just seems kinda tight...

and on my main gear, there was 1/3 of tooth missing... :( i dont think i should fly like that, no? (anyway, it will not fly before april, so plenty of time, but still... :)

Yeah you can't beat Ralph!!

As for the Delrin shims, yes one on each side. If they seem tight lightly sand the one between the auto gear and the main gear. The tolerances on this kit are very tight. Sanding the shim isn't uncommon.

Also be sure to use a light oil on the OWB. Not a heavy grease.

i think with light sanding of the shims it wont be done! :) if i remove one shim at all, i have smooth auto hub, but than there is slop, if i put in both shims, no slop but very thight auto hub...
