Auto rotation hub
« on: December 25, 2013, 02:14:36 PM »
How do you get it apart? I used green lock tight to put the brass rings in and my kids came in and distracted me. Long story short, I didn't get one ring completely seated so it is not flush with the edge of the hub and I need to remove it and re-seat. Any help or advice would be awesome!!!

Scott,
I have seen that happen to folks before (even undistracted  ;D).

Put the hub (minus the gear) on a heat proof surface.  Get a socket wrench socket that is just a bit smaller than the outside diameter of the brass bushing.  Heat the side in question and gently tap with a hammer using the socket.  That should seat the affected brass bushing.

Actually removing the bushings at this point may be difficult.  Heat will help.

Cheers

Alan

1) How do you secure the brass bushing after heating it and tapping it in?  Do you just wick some green Loctite?

2) Any concerns about the heat loosening the OWB and/or the other brass bushing?

Excellent, Allan! I ordered another one just in case. As I was fiddling with it a rubber O-ring came out of the  one way. Would that cause any damage if I used it anyway? I would think that the O-ring would help hold the oil in.

First off the amount of heat needed to soften the green loktite is minimal.
The green loktite will set up once cooled and still hold in the  bushing.
If you place the hub on a flat surface you should not see any movement in the OWB or the other bushing.  Again just enough heat to soften the loktite.

I have used this method twice before with no ill effects.

The missing o - ring should not affect the function of the OWB.
