Clutch one-way bearing.

Hi all,

I am having problems with the one-way clutch bearing. The N7 is on it's 8th gallon of fuel and i just installed my third one-way clutch bearing. First one-way started slipping after roughly 3 gallons. Second one fell apart when i pulled the motor for maintenance today. (I am glad i had a back-up bearing) I've had many nitro's and never had this issue. This is a minor issue for me and in no way am i trying to say anything negative. Any advice would be appreciated. I love my N7! I love it so much i just finished my twin N7! :)

Hobbico 180 with a Makita adapter and a hard mount shaft.

Okay just wanted to be sure you are not using the Align jackhammer. 
Basic questions but we must ask.
Are you using light oil on the one way?
Are you 100% sure your alignment is correct?
Are the replacement ones Synergy OEM parts?
I have 4 gallons through my N7 and the one way has been reliable.

I used a small amount of Align one-way bearing grease when installed.
I feel my alignment is correct, as it feels smooth when i turn it by hand.
Yes it was am OEM replacement.

Try looking at the clutch plate and clutch bell alignment.  Be sure the plate is parallel with the bottom of the bell housing.  It may be hard to visualize but you should be able to to see if there is any misalignment. 


Are you using the same start shaft? You might consider replacing that if no other cause can be determined.


Be sure there is no vertical play in the start shaft.


Other than that I cannot think of anything other than alignment that would cause this.


Any other thoughts guy?

I would recommend cleaning out your one way bearing of any grease and use a light oil like triflow.  If the grease is packed in the bearing, when the bearing unlocks the grease will expand around the needles and if its cold the grease will be more viscous which could be pushing and separating the metal that separates the needles from the bearing.

This may or may not have happened to me. :-X

+1 on the grease problem. This happened to me in the early N5 days. Since then I have recommended using a small amount of oil instead of grease. Grease can also cause excessive amounts of heat in this application if it is not the right type of grease. This heat can damage the bearing.

Thanks for all the info everyone. Everything seems good right now. It's probably a case of operator error. I do have some spares to keep me flying "IF" it happens again. I learn from trial and error! Getting the "Twin" broken in. It sure helps the confidence knowing if one goes in you have a back up!! ;)
