Hello,
I am Ryan Witchey. I live in Edmond, OK with my wife, son who is almost two and a baby girl that is due in about three weeks! I own Witchey Designs, which is a design and engineering firm. The product designs span from home and mobile audio components for some of the top manufacturers in the world to the interior and exterior skins on an upcoming electric vehicle. I am also a partner in a company that is bringing new components to the full scale sport aviation community.
I have been involved in r/c helicopters since 1999 with a lengthy hiatus here and there. I would say actual "active" years flying would be around 5 or 6. I started with r/c cars in the late 80s in junior high and followed that through to racing in the Off-Road Nationals in 1994. I slowed down the racing while attending Oklahoma State for Mechanical Engineering. During my senior year a friend of mine got me into airplanes and I quickly transitioned into helicopters three months later. It is really the only hobby that I have found that keeps me 100% interested 100% of the time. You have mechanical and electrical components. You have things that need to be adjusted and set up. You have incredibly dynamic assemblies. Then you have the flying, which is an entire set of incredible experiences in itself.
Getting the E7 is kind of coming full circle for me. I flew for several companies in the past including Robbe and Hirobo. When Todd was working on the Synergy we kept in contact and I purchased a kit from the first batch that hit the shores. About six months after flying the N9 I was asked to join the team. It was a lot of fun and I had many enjoyable flights with those machines. I have tried a plethora of machines since then and all have had their ups and downs. I am really enjoying the E7 and as I mentioned in a different post- it is very easy to get comfortable with. As for the canopy, well my N9 was white with lime green and royal blue. I thought might have made it just for me
As for other interests- I love my family, the good Lord above and cherish my friendships. I am a Formula One fanatic and cigar aficionado. I recently became very active in golf, which has taken some time away from flying. I have always been "into" guns and love to shoot at the local tactical matches when I am between golf and flying. I guess my last love would be Porsche cars. I am an absolute enthusiast. I don't currently have one in the garage, but that only increases the desire, right?
I look forward to meeting many of you at flying events soon!
-Ryan
