Ok guys,
how hot should this motor get on 4400 packs at 4min of flt time? Even the main gear is a little warm, is this normal? Here is my setup.

12S setup
Rail Blades 696/106
11T Spur Gear

I have three KDE700XF-495 motors.  They get really hot.  140° to 170°F depending on how hard you push them.  Not to worry.  If I remember correctly from corresponding with Patrick, the epoxy that holds the magnets don't start degrading until about 440°F.

ok great, but what about the main gear? Its not that hot but it is warm, I just don't want to lose a main.

It never occurred to me to check on the temp of the main gear after a flight.  I will check on the next few flights on different helis, but I would be curious to learn of others experience on this.

On page 17 of the manual, it say Synthetic grease may be used on main gear and pinion in order to reduce heat and improve gear interaction. So, I'll give that a try.

I have some extreme pressure synthetic grease on my e5 main.  It was in the manual I think to apply a bit so I did.  No negative effects to report.

Grease can fling all over the place.  I use DryFluid Extreme Gear Lube.  I don't know if it helps preserve the main gear (again, I've never felt it for heat), but at at least the canopy and the inside of the heli remains clean.

Ok,
I applied some synthetic grease to all the gears, and the main gear was cool.  ;D ;D Also there was no noise coming from any of them 8) 8).

yes sir. the grease makes a huge mess over time. the dry fluid really does the trick. and you can buy a bottle at home depot, or lowes for $4 instead of that crazy price on helidirect. its the same stuff, Teflon.....check it out at lowes. I lube mine after every 4 days of flying!

Thanks for the info. I'll check out Home Depot and Lowes.
I will take a look at my log and see, good info.

Also, if you just email KDE directly, patrick or one of the other guys will get back to you with all the temperature numbers, Castle settings, and gearing they like to use on a E7se.  They have several videos of testing on a Synergy...  They probably have v-bar settings to, if you are using that unit.

I'm now running the same KDE motor with 12T pinion on my E7 although I am still running the 121 main gear. The motor seems quite hot to the touch but I measured about 165 degrees, I'd expect a little warmer with a 13T.

If you think your main gear is getting too warm I would just make sure you always have some backlash by checking it when it is hot and also revolve it when hot to check for any tight spots and adjust for those. I've seen a couple guys claiming that a tight mesh will "wear in", more like "wear out!"

I ran my E7 gears completely dry for a whole season with a hardened 13T and Hacker motor with no dust or wear at all. But recently I applied some Boto-Lube on my E5 and then on my E7 VERY sparingly though and I've seen no slinging into the canopy.

Hope this helps,

Bob
