Sorry I missed this thread initially. I am flying sport right now and also want to try my hand in F3C.
Here is my setup
Motor...........Quantum 4125-1100
Pinion..........12 Tooth
ESC.............CC Edge 120HV
Servos.........BK DS7001 HV for Cyclic
........BK DS7005 HV for Tail
FBL..............Spectrum
BEC ............CC BEC Pro.
FLT Pack.......Pulse 6s 5000mah 45c
I am running 2 different head speeds right now.
2300 for the flying part of the Sportsman class. Loops, stall turns, procedure turns, rolls......... From what I have experienced so far that headspeed is more than enough to get the job done. My expectation is slowing don a little more might be OK. I will try 2200 this weekend.
I am using 2100 for the hover events. Lowering the headspeed definitely makes those kind of maneuvers much more smooth and stable. From what I have researched on line compared to a 3D setup, a F3C setup is way more soft as you guys described. I am running 556 Rail blades now and am searching for a better blade for F3C. For the 700 Matt has the Speed /F3C blades but no such version for the 556.
I have also been experimenting with the dual rates and expo. I haven't felt too comfortable with lots of expo but for the hover events cutting down the rate to 80% helped a bunch in terms of smoothness. I think a flatter pitch curve will help too.
Anyway I hope my thumbs will be worthy of trying my hand at F3C by mid summer. We will see.
If anyone out there has experience with F3C I welcome any suggestions.....
BTW
I have already talked to Gasser Mike and a couple others about buying a 700. I know the 700 is the way to go for F3C but until I try it and am sure I want to seriously pursue it I will stay with the 550 since its a little easier on the wallet. After I try it and assuming I like it I see a E7 in my future
