Mainshaft vertical float

A quick build question.

When installing the mainshaft there is a note to say you should install the middle collar with the boss facing upwards otherwise there will be too much movement in the mainshaft. Well I have the boss installed facing up to the bearing and there is still about a mm of vertical movement in the mainshaft. This is easily removed when you tighten the top collar but is there meant to be that much movement before adding the top collar?

The tail gear lines up perfectly so I am happy with using the top collar to keep the shaft the right height but I was wondering if i had made some mistake when I assembled the oneway or something else. I did check that the 2 Delrin washers were there after loctiting the brass washers in place.

Yes, the little play left is easily adjusted out with the top collar. I know guys that have used shims to shim out that play, but I have never had problems with it. 

Now the N7 requires a shim, but that shim is provided. Just a note in case you ever build an N7

I used a 1mm shim to take up the play on my E5, then just dropped the top collar into place.
That left minimal play in the mainshaft, just enough that the jesus bolt still fits without pressure and the middle and lower main bearings aren't preloaded.

The shim was with my kit when I bought it (pre-loved/almost new) so am not sure of the origin of the shims.
I think it might be part  Synergy #109-110, if you decide to go that way.
