E5 stretch back to 550
« on: June 28, 2015, 05:17:13 AM »
Hi guys,
Ive recentley destroyed my logo 550 ( for the 2nd time ) due to mechanical failure. So im gonna walk away from logo for good  ;)
My question is : i have an e5 stretch which i love but never flown as a 550.
Do they fly just as good as a 550 ?
Is it woth the conversion back ?
Reason being is i have alot more 5000 packs than 3000 packs !!

Thanks

I have configured the E5 both ways.  I prefer the convenience of using a single 6S pack to spin the shorter 556mm blades.   BTW, the Synergy E5 configured as 6S is much easier to my 6S 4400-4500mah packs spinning the 556/96 blades at 2400rpm HS than was my Goblin 570 spinning the 570/95 blades at the same rpm.

Did you shorten the boom or leave it just change the blades ?

My e5  stretch is currently a 12cell 550.  Loving it.  Flying 2 3300mah packs.  I don't beat mine around and after flying a gasser I find it flies beautiful.  I wish it had the 25 min flight times of my gasser.

I left the E5 boom at the original length of 640mm.  The stock TT length was 632.5mm.  I shortened it by 2.5mm down to 630mm.  I red Loctited the TT bearings at 190mm from one end and 205mm from the other end of the TT.  I left the boom support rods at the stock length of 480mm.

I guess your real question is whether to leave the boom, TT and boom supports rods at the longer length you have now when dropping the blade size to 556mm.  Less hassle an gives you the ability to convert back to accommodate the longer 600+ size blades.  It should fly pretty well with an unnecessarily long tail, but you may accentuate the pendulum effect.  Best to keep the boom long enough to avoid a blade strike, but not much longer than that.

When i built the e5 i stretched it straight from the box, so have all the original 550 parts left over.
Just thought if i changed motor and blades, if it would still fly ok with the longer tail.
Guess it will have better tail authority ?

It will fly but with a longer boom comes more elevator pendulum effect. I prefer to run just long enough to let the tail blades clear this limits the elevator effects.
