N7 switch mount
« on: August 20, 2015, 04:14:08 AM »
I find the recessed place for the radio switch to be very malplaced as it is in the front of the frame where it is unavailable without removing the canopy. One of the very good things I like about nitro helis is that you usually don't have to remove the canopy between flights. Okay, I can fix this, but why isn't the switch mount placed at the rear where it could be accessible without removing the canopy?

Best regards

Ran into the same issue with my N5C... Using the same fuel line and the trusty Dremel I cut a finger hole and trimmed it with the fuel line(slice a straight line down one side so u can insert the cut edge into the fuel line). CA to secure the fuel line. Pretty easy fix & I was very pleased with the end result. I'm sure u could do similar on ur N7.

I just use a regulator with remote switch and push glow. My N7 has the same regulator.

I have used the perfect regulators Safe Switch on my nitros.  Much safer than a regular slide switch and can be used with or without the switch extension.  The switch extension can be placed anywhere on the Heli.

That's what I did on my N5C, Alan. I ran an extension to the rear of the frame. I think I'll probably convert my N7 to the same setup this winter.

Traditionally on a nitro everything is located up front to balance out you center of gravity. Plus with the quick release canopy mounting system taking off the canopy is done with minimal effort. Personally I don't use any switch on my nitro, its just another component that could fail. I prefer a straight 2s lipo.

It looks like the perfect regulators safe switch uses shorting pins to turn it off.  This is the same setup as the skookum power bus I'm using on my N7.  I simply ran a short servo extention up inside the frame and 3M taped it to the frame right near the opening in the canopy adjacent to the clutch stack.  Reach in pull the bind plug and the system powers up.

My prefered method these days is just to use the 3M tape on about everything electronics short of batteries.  It has NEVER failed me and I have started using less of it on satellites as it feels like I'm going to break the plastic before getting it to release.  Simple, neat, reliable and you can use it wherever you choose, not just where some random, sorry Matt  ;D, designer thought you should have a mount.

Looks like most people are using regulators. Is that really necessary? I now run a straight 2S LiPo and it is very simple and seem to work just fine.

The only reason I use a regulator is so I don't have to take the canopy off every flight. I can power down or refuel and go.

The only reason I use this particular regulator is for the push glow driver built in.

I am not using the regulator function at all. It is passing the voltage straight through.

You can get one with or without a glow plug igniter.

While the safe switch duo pro CAN be used to regulate down to 5.3V, I think most of us use the straight pass-through feature so it's basically just a power switch for the 2s LiPO with the added benefit of a built-in push button igniter. It's a nice little piece of hardware, Chris Sexton turned me onto it and I'm glad I tried it out.

Nice canopy Danny :-)

Love it, thanks Alan!
