Clutch & Liner ?
« on: November 02, 2015, 10:26:47 AM »
Hey guys... Broke a shoe on the clutch.. Thought the liner may need to be replaced.. But when I got the bell out it doesn't look that bad.. Still a good bit of liner in there as compared to the replacement I had stocked up on. Should I change this out?

This thing is good... Thought the broke clutch might be due to a worn out liner.. Must have been a few weeks ago doin the dance on the head.. Had to have been.. I'm put'n this back together!

any time I have my bell off and accessible I clean it off with acetone, or denatured alcohol. don't drench it, just clean it real good to get the sheen off of it.

you can break clutches by "poppin" the throttle or "flipping" the throttle on the way to the flight line actually. you know, rev rev rev rev, that is not good on one. you can also damage them in a crash like you mentioned. just think the stress that shoe has on it.

coming from a NX4, you learn to enjoy the clutch on the synergy.  The nx4 has a bad clutch gap from the factory, it needs a better liner.  My current clutch is going on many gallons on the synergy.

Get' her put back together.. I'm finding the stack doesn't look level... No shims on the motor mounts currently.. Note the clutch sit lower on in the bell housing on the right... & looks about just right on the left side.. Is this close enough? Any tips? Can I shim just the bottom motor mount bolts to bring the front of the motor up?

Thought that too for a sec... But when I spin the head.. It stays level without sign of distortion.. Magnet gap says the same.. Distance to the frame says the same.. I don't see any wobble.

first thing I would do is pull the clutch back off and be sure there is no debris under one side of the clutch, between the clutch and the fan hub. that would be where I would start.

Wonder if that shaft is bent that runs up through the bell to the starter cup...

absolutely I would replace the start shaft. I thought that is what we were talking about replacing from the beginning. lol yes, the start shaft needs to be replaced regardless if that is the cause, due to the groove cut in it that you mentioned. I would still inspect the clutch and fan hub to ensure everything is square and nothing needs to be replaced there...
