E7 in the mail!
« on: November 25, 2011, 08:10:35 PM »
Spent a lot of time deciding between the many new 700 size heli's and narrowed it down to the e7.....ordered from Ralph at FBL Rotors Unlimited and couldn't be happier with experience buying from him and the deal he made me.....will post up pics when I get the kit!

My planned setup:

E7
Kontronic Heli Jive 120 v11
Hacker 470 or Xera 4530
JR 8917 cyclic
Hyperion DH20X-GCD Tail
Jive BEC or Castle Pro BEC + 1500 buffer pack
TP 4400 65c packs (12s)
Vbar (gov)
Rail 696+106 blades

BTW...ordered the Hacker 470 to try, but had my eye on an Xera 4530-500.....anyone tried both and could share your experience?

another BTW...anyone have experience with the XT150 6mm bullet connectors?

What made you pick the E7 over the others?

- Light Weight (doesnt "need" 10k watt motor to get it moving)
- Simple, clean design w/servos oriented "as they should be" IMO (ie..almost perfect 90deg to swash balls)
- Delrin Helical Main gear - beefy, and I like it quiet
- Counterbearing on pinion
- Tidy frames, plenty of room for elect. and *seems like* more room for a variety of pack sizes
- Parts availability/support....site shows 16 dealers!  (I like/own Compass and Mikado, but sort of a bummer they are supported by only one vendor in US)
- The designer/owner of the company posts on the forums almost daily....this can't be a bad thing.....
- good price for what seems to be great quality...
- and...sort of a joke from a thread in another forum....I DIG THE CANOPY....lol

There are a lot of good 700 helis hitting the market...and for me, it was between the MA whiplash, e7 and SAB goblin.  I really like the whiplash and would prefer to support a heli made in US...but my one major concern was weight.  From what I've seen it requires a serious power system to move it around...5k packs seem necessary....whereas the e7 offers more versatility, from lighter weight packs (sub 4k mah) with 'smaller' motors to big 5k packs and 10kw motors.  The Goblin is IMO a breakthrough design but it seems a little bit too exotic right now.

I have some XT-150 that I haven't tried yet. Nice concept, but they are big when all is said and done. They connect and disconnect easily. Assembly is a little different. I tried one to test awhile back. I think it was the male that goes into the housing from the front, so the plastic sleeve has to be on the wire before you solder the connector. Then you pull the connector back and then push the completed female into it and that seats the male all the way into the housing. That's a Castle 5.5 for comparison. This is my first time posting a pic here..not sure if it will show up. Congrats on your purchase and enjoy the build and good decision on buying from Ralph.

Nice setup, I look forward to hearing you maiden it.

As far as Matt posting almost daily,
It was him taking time to talk to me personally and show me his bird at IRCHA that sold me. I am no sponsored pilot, hell I didn't even have a pilots badge, but he still seemed to genuinely want to answer my questions.

I am very happy to support an organization where the customer service starts at the very top. It doesn't hurt that it is one damn fine bird!

Enjoy the build man!

Kit came last night - Few pics... couple close up of the pearl white  8)  Almost no 'plastic' in this kit....all lightweight, nicely machined alloy and quality CF!  Can't wait to start!
