n7 keep stripping tail gears
« on: February 15, 2018, 12:33:05 PM »
hey guys, I just went to get a quick flight, and my n7 stripped the tail gears.  This is teh second set in about 30 flights.  The ones on the tail strip.  Anyone else have this happen?

I fly 105mm tails, and have had the same tail blades on.  I dont fly in high grass, and haven't hit the tail hard.

So it has to be something mechanical in my opinion.

Any ideas?

Something is either assembled wrong, or bent/bad. I have never seen the tail gears strip.  the 54t gear in the front is what normally strips first and the front bevel gear being second, but only in a crash/hard tail touch.

When you rebuild, check mesh. There is a washer on the center spacer that can be moved to either side of the tail shaft bevel gear to adjust mesh on the mushroom.  It's stripping, not melting, so I think your mesh is too loose.  But hard to tell without seeing it in person.

Also be sure the mushroom gear is fully seated against the bearings. I've seen that push out when the TT is inserted and that will wreck the gears fast.

I agree with Chris, there's definitely a mechanical issue somewhere. Those gears rarely ever strip, even in crashes. You can dig ruts with the tail and not strip those. No kidding, I've shredded tail blades, those gears are strong.

I'd take the tail case completely apart and make sure all the parts are straight and bearings are good. Shaft, bearing plates, everything.

Those gears are pretty tough.. especially on the nitro models. Check mechanical.

I agree with this it looks like the mushroom gear is not seated properly. Hopefully no response means you got it worked out.

Yes, it is fixed.  I converted it to a belt.  No more gear issues  ::)

You converted an N7 to belt?  What parts did you use?

The old e7 parts are a direct fit, didn't have to do anything.  Only thing I did is get the Logo 600se belt since the synergy belts don't have the best record.

The conversion took all of a half hour.
