N5C OneWay Bearing

Hello all
I have a bit of a problem, as I do not really have a good answer for. I have had my N5C since December now. I noticed back in February that the OWB wasn't behaving as it should.
It started freezing on the main-shaft, and now it today it locked up on the shaft today. I don't want to fly it till I get another, does anybody know how difficult it is to change the OWB out of the hub?

Shouldn't be that bad as long as you have the right tools ( not a screwdriver and a hammer)

Hi Erik,

It is relatively easy to do with an arbor press if you have access to one or if you can get hold of a one way bearing removal tool like these:

The bearing itself should be fine but the sleeve may have marks on it where the bearing has grabbed so i would recommend replacing the sleeve and cleaning out the bearing and then relubing with light oil or ATF fluid.

The code for the New Sleeve for the Auto Hub Assembly on the N5C is: 610-147N

I have a little tip which may help you out to get you flying as quickly as possible:

Firstly free off the one-way hub assembly, it is easier to do this whilst it is in the helicopter as a small amount of force should free it off, then once you have done that remove it from the machine.

What i did was to flush out the bearing itself with WD40 using the bearing sleeve as restrictor to keep the pins from dropping out. I also used a light jet of air, the canned type that is used for PC cleaning is ideal to gently flush out any debris and also the WD40. Leave it to sit for a while to allow any remain WD40 to evaporate and then relube with light oil or ATF fluid and then install the new sleeve and then refit into the helicopter.
