This is going to sound retarded but quick question. The thrust bearings in the blade grips, should the open side face towards the blade or the rotor housing?  The manual makes it look to me like the open end faces the blade root.

Can someone confirm please?

Open side inwards, so that gease is somewhat trapped from being slung out.
