New Servos and BEC
« on: August 22, 2012, 10:07:54 AM »
Hey everyone,

So I'm trying to get information in order because I am going to order the E5 when it is released. The first thing I wanted to ask is I noticed a lot of E-heli people using the small round wheels and what appears to be 4 screws through the horns instead of 1 or 2. Can anyone tell me what that is or why it's being done? I seem to see it primarily on Futaba servos but to save just a bit of money I was planning on going with the JR8717's again like I did on my N5c and want to see if it is necessary.

Second question is per the pre-release talk & IRCHA flight video the demo E5 had a castle BEC Pro on it. Would this be the one?

And if so is the Castle ESC that Ralph will be offering the high voltage one where the red wire needs to remain intact upon installation?

Sorry for the questions, I've never been an E-heli guy but I couldn't resist here. I plan on making it y winter project.

The Synergy CF servo arms are included in the kits and are designed to mount to the stock futaba wheels that come on the futaba servos. This will give you the ideal resolutions on your futaba servos. If you don't want to run Futaba, or Outrage, ALign, and Savox for that matter as they are the same spline, You can use normal arms on JR and Spektrum servos.

Yes that is the right BEC Pro that Matt was using on his demo model.

AS for the 120HV ESC, I am not sure what you are asking. The Castle ESCs don't have a BEC in them, but you can wire the BEC into the flight batteries using the red and black power wires on the BEC PRO, I believe this is how Matt had his as I didn't see a flight pack.

I was reading the BEC manual on Castle's website and it said if using certain HV ESC models that the red wire that goes from the ESC to the receiver should be left in tact and all others you should disconnect it.

Thanks for the info though, I guess looking at the money I I'm going to put all the other expensive stuff in I might as well go for the BSL255's and make it simple with the contents provided.

On any opto isolated none bec esc you don't need to remove the red wire. The castles are like this.

If you are using an esc that has an internal bec you need to isolate it, ie remove the power wire, before you connect the bec.

Whew it's obvious that I have a lot to learn still. Plus side is I just got some cash so BRING ON THE E5. I am debating on also building a gasser but that's debatable at the moment.
