Synergy e7se Component Questions: Motor, ESC, etc?
« on: January 22, 2016, 01:13:48 PM »
Hi everyone.

I just purchased my first synergy heli - a synergy e7se. I'm waiting for it to arrive and SO excited! Its my first heli of this size, so I'm hoping to get some ideas from you guys on:
-Motors
-BEC

Also, I just picked up a HeliJive 120 hv v13. Will this work for the e7se? Or do I need a larger esc?

I'd like to put on:
Spirit fbl
BLS 272
BLS 276

Any ideas, suggestions that you guys have would be gratefully received! Thanks again. Bryan

Hey and Welcome to the Synergy Family,

I think the recommended MOTOR is Scorpion 520kv Ultimate and the Castle Creations 160hv with castle pro BEC but is all depends on your style of flying or your intended style of flying ..

There is a ton of information here on this web site and also ask any questions and I am sure it will get answered in a short time frame. Congrats on your purchase. :)

I run the KDE 535KV motor, Castle 160HV, CC BEC Pro, OMG H4 Cyclic, Futaba Tail servos.

I fly 696mm mains, and I have flown this heli from 1850-2250 on the head. 2050 and 2150 are my favorite.

The HeliJive is plenty of ESC for the E7se.  If you put the heatsink on it, it will run with the castle 160. If you already have the HJ, I would just use it.

Motor, I second the 4525-520 Ultimate, great motor!

I like your servo choice:)

Wow - you guys ROCK!

Thank you Chris, Mike and Richard! Those were quick responses. Lol.

What do you guys think about the Kontronik PYRO 700-56L Competition or Kontronik PYRO 750-50XL Competition motors? I've only used Scorpion motors, however, I have a chance to buy one of those motors brand new at a discounted price. I don't know if they're too much or too little for the e7se. Or if they'll even fit.

Otherwise, I'll definitely purchase the 4525-520 you guys are recommending.

Thanks again everyone, and have a great weekend!

Bryan

The E7SE is awesome.  The mechanics are very smooth and efficient.  It offers the flexibility of several gearing configurations for both head and tail.

I use a BEC Pro set to 7.5v.  No issues with it.

There are a few points to consider to make the build go as smooth as possible:

1) Make sure to get a Boto-Sizer
2) Consider getting the KDE/FBL Rotors Ball Link Pliers
3) Decide whether you want to stick with the stock link rods or upgrade to turnbuckles.  There are several choices for turnbuckles
4) Consider getting the Boto-Lube
5) Consider purchasing two 4mm hex drivers with T-handles, so you are able to remove the bolts off the feathering shaft
6) Consider upgrading to the front canopy stud mechanism or use QuickUK magnetic mounts instead of the stock front canopy studs

curmudgeon - Thanks for the great tips! Ordered the hex keys & pliers.

Do you happen to have a link to the turnbuckles you'd recommend?

How about to the front canopy mounts?

It looks like the sizing tool and lube are out of stock so I'll have to wait on those.

Thanks again for your help - Bryan

How about to the front canopy mounts?

I use the QuickUK magnetic mounts for T-Rex 700N.  Unfortunately, they don't seem to make these any more.  I've read some post on HeliFreak stating that the QuickUK straight magnetic studs for T-Rex 700E work well, but I have not tried them.

If I were to build another E5 or E7SE, I would consider trying the front canopy mounts used on the Synergy N7 and the new Synergy 766

Do you happen to have a link to the turnbuckles you'd recommend?

I am using the M3 thread size Lunsford titanium turnbuckles from Amain.  I am using the LNS1165 turnbuckles (38.1mm) for the servos-to-swash links, and the LNS1168 turnbuckles (47.63mm) for the two swash-to-blade grip links.  I used different turnbuckle lengths compared to stock rod lengths in an effort to maximize thread going into the plastic links but without bottoming out (see pic below).  The Synergy 107-100 plastic links can accommodate 13mm worth of link thread.

If you decide to use M3 thread size turnbuckles with the stock Synergy 107-100 plastic links that are made for M2.5 thread size, you will need to widen the inner hole with a drill bit.

I purchased the Lunsford turnbuckles before learning of Ralph's FBL Rotors turnbuckles.  If I were starting from scratch, I would buy the turnbuckles from Ralph.  If you already have M3 turnbuckles and do not want to widen the Synergy plastic links with a drill bit, you have the option of purchasing links with M3 size holes from Ralph.

Notice how I did not use a turnbuckle link on the rear/elevator servo.  I set the rear/elevator link to specification as per the manual, and used turnbuckles on the right and left aileron servos to level the swash.

Hi Bryan, I've run Helijives in the E7SE with heatsink no problem! As far as a BEC goes, I would just use the Jive BEC, it's rock solid. If you're dead set on running high voltage or having an external BEC I really like the Western Robotics Super Mini.

What do you guys think about the Kontronik PYRO 700-56L Competition or Kontronik PYRO 750-50XL Competition motors?

The Pyro 700 is on the lower end of the power scale for the E7SE, but will work well for sport flying. The Pyro 750 is on par with the Scorpion 4525.

YOU GUYS ROCK AGAIN!! What an amazing forum!

I really appreciate everyone's willingness to lend their wisdom and expertise to help me out.

Thank you to curmudgeon for such a detailed explanation and to Danny and Vince as well.

Have a great week everyone, and I'm sure I'll be back asking more questions soon enough  :)
