OH NO Static..
« on: February 19, 2012, 07:29:57 PM »
Took the E6 out for a flight today in sunny Ca. I noticed my tail had a little side to side wag. I landed and checked for static. Static no where to be found in the boom or tail case, only the main belt pully. Any ideas?

I can upload a small vid I took if you'd like to see.

Are you sure it's Static Jerry? You did lube the Belt Right?? Never Seen a static issue on the "E"'s?? and Frankly there shouldn't be. show us a Vid, Curious to see what you are experiencing and maybe we can shed a little light on this.. ;)

Hey Kevin, how ya been

That's what I was hoping you guys can help me figure out. Yes I did lube the belt with silicone spray. I have flown it about 15 times since I sprayed it last.

I removed the vid being I wasn't having static hits. Maybe GOV ocilations?

JVZ,

Slow tail wag can be caused from many different things. Here are some common causes of slow tail wag.

1. Mechanical binding - Check your thrust bearing installation and make sure your push rod is operating smoothly.
2. Vibration - spool up without main and tail blades and feel for excessive vibrations.
3. Static? - possible but very unlikely. Static discharge will generally cause violent unpredictable "hits" on the tail or any control surface connected to the FBL unit. Spray your belt with silicone spray again and fly. If it goes away then you have your answer. Here is a perfect example of a static hit. --> logo gain problem.nasty tail wag

Quite frankly I have seen many E6/7's in the air and not one single model had static discharge issues that caused any sort of problem. I'm not saying there is no static because essentially the belt running through a tube is a van de graaff generator. The key here is controlling its build up and discharge. Your tests may show static on the pulley but is it enough to jump to your electrical components?.... probably not. I've owned many helicopters other than Synergy that were problematic with high levels of static discharge but it was always controllable via many popular means.

Thanks,

Matt

WHoooa!!

Thanks for posting that Matt. I have never seen a static hit before.

I check my VBAR log every flight. All good health messages and a couple of antenna switches only one raised vibe level. No red colors at all 95% green I'd say.

This was the first time I noticed this very slight tail wag. But like I said I haven't silicone sprayed the belt since initial setup. I will spray the belt before next flight.

Should I just spray the belt over the tail case and turn the mains until the belt completes a revolution. Even with the red straw that stuff sprays all over the place under that pressure LOL.

Thanks
Jerry

If you had static the vbar log would say checksum which is the trigger for logging static. The antenna switched would most likely have something to do with the antenna in the video you posted has the active antenna shielded by carbon. Not the best way to mount the sat.

I too have a slight wag on my tail on my maiden. The servo arm I was using has quite some flex. I changed it out and also lined the guides better and put one trilow on the tail shaft. With a bit of luck it will fix my issue.

I ran my E7 up on the bench with only main blades removed and at 2150 HS and 0 pitch I maxed out at 117 vibes on vbar live display. I have never seen a Heli that low before. Even my logo600 is around 380-300 and it is smooth inflight.

Beans

Where do you suggest I mount the Sats?

Still had a very slight wag after spraying the lube and test flying again. Should I adjust the gyro gains in either the main rotor or tail rotor?

thanks

Just a reminder that the factory assembled tail thrust bearings are not greased.

did you figure out what happenned and fix it? I'm having the same issue..slow tail wag. Checked everything and I couldn't find any binding and made sure the tail blade grip's thrust bearings greased.

No panz,

I haven't located it. It was way to windy to try again today, hopefully I'll give it a go tomorrow. Some of the guys on RR seam to feel it's GOV osilations on the Scorp Commander 130 ESC. I am planing on wiring in the VBAR gov. I watched all Mr. Mels vids I could find and think I am ready to go. Only problem I am having is finding out which port on Mini Vbar I need to install the Scorpion OPTO sensor cable?

I am using the Hyperion phase sensor with the mini Vbar. I have the single wire plugged into rx A top one of the servo plug conectors. Make sure that there is no power going into the Vbar at rx A or it damage the Vbar
