It took a while but my 766 is built and flying.

Build spec:
766 kit, built using the 716 boom option
Xnova 4530-500 8D motor, 14T pinion
Castle Edge 160HV ESC
Servos BK8001HV on cyclic and Futaba BLS276SV tail
Vbar Neo with Futaba R7003SB receiver, Futaba T14SG transmitter
Flight pack 2x Gensace 5000mah 60C 6S
Receiver pack Gensace 1800mah 2S
Mains 713mm
Tails 115mm
Headspeed range 1860-2060
The build went smoothly, simple as that. The kit was well boxed, protected against damage and parts sealed in bags for each step of the build.
The online manual was there with detailed step by step instructions for assembly, no guesswork required.
Just what any synergy owner would expect.
I totally enjoyed the build, very high parts quality, fit up is simple, accurate and all operates smoothly, component fit out is easy.
Design features, specs and visual appeal, the finished heli is a champion.
I did make a few minor modifications along the way, to address a couple of things and these might interest others who go for a similar spec to mine.
Mod 1, Battery tray
Building with the 716 boom and 2x 5000mah 60C 6S flight packs, plus the receiver pack up front on top of the tray, I planned to fix the batteries to the tray with velcro and the battery straps provided in the kit.
However I found that I needed to mount the tray in the most forward locking position with the batteries pushed forward, front pack about 35mm clear of the front of the battery tray to achieve correct COG.
With the batteries moved so far forward on the tray the battery strap points were well back on each pack and I wasn't comfortable that they would hold the batteries as securely as I'd like.
To hold the batteries securely I made some slots in the battery tray for additional straps near the front of each pack and in line with the tray cross pieces, so using two straps to hold each battery.
As an additional mod I epoxied a piece of carbon fibre into the front tray opening to make a separate strap point for the receiver pack on top of the battery tray and clear of the main pack straps.
Mod 2, Canopy and canopy mount
I've read some comments about difficulty fitting/removing the main canopy without damage due to stiffness of the canopy near the keychain mounting pins.
I found out what they were talking about when I tried mine as well, but unfortunately did crack the back end of the canopy a little in trying to flex it to clear the pins from the retainers.
Likely that technique has something to play in this as well.
To try and stop any further damage to the canopy I made two changes.
Firstly I reinforced the sides of the canopy with reinforcing tape set in epoxy on the inside between the mounting hole and the back edge. I used fabric tape because thats what I had.
Second I found some shorter keychain pins to replace the standard Synergy items, which makes it easier to pull clear of the retainers and remove the canopy without stressing it as much.
So far this is working well, with no further damage to the canopy.
Build complete and time for the maiden...
Disclaimer: I admit that Synergy is my heli family, I've had my E5 for near 3yrs and enjoy it more each time we fly.
Can I be objective about the performance of the 766 - I can try.
Impressions...
This is my first 700+ class machine and pre-flight I was in awe of its size, power and potential, and just a little bit nervous.
The nerves held for the maiden and from the minute the heli spooled up, through first hover and circuits it was locked in and rock solid.
Flights since then have been mostly taking it easy, breaking in new packs and getting comfortable doing some sport flying and a little beginner 3D.
I only have good to say about this heli, its agile and stable, fast and locked in, inspires confidence and I'm sure will do anything I have the skill to ask of it.
Just like my E5, the 766 feels better each time we fly and I just don't want to stop.
