Hi Kevin,

You can walk me through it if you like. :)

I think I've set it right. I tried the sheet of paper trick. I tried the "set it with no mesh and then back it off a bit" The thing is I'm not sure what a bit of backlash is. My bit and someone else's bit could be totally different. It sounded very quiet in the air, the Vbar vibes are very respectible and so I think it's okay. But at £35 a main gear I'd rather be sure. I'm not sure my main gear was that well machined as there was quite a substantial high spot on it. It seems to be getting better now after a few runs.

Cheers,
Craig

Hi Craig,

Couple of things i do when setting the gear mesh:

Make sure the pinion height is set correctly so that the pinion is flush against the bearing on the lower bearing support (See Picture).

I also use the paper method to mesh the pinion/main gear, it works extremely well. One thing to make sure when you mesh using this method is cut a strip of paper (Normal 80gsm copier paper is fine), about 10mm in width and as long as you want. Feed the paper in between the pinion and main gear and then push the motor towards the main gear but make sure you push both the motor mount and the lower bearing support together as pushing on just the upper motor mount or on the motor itself can cause an offset in the mesh.

If you need any help just drop me a message, i can give you my mobile number so you can give me a call if needed. I should also be in the shop on saturday so if you want to bring your E7 in i will take a look at it for you.

Hope this helps,
Ross

Thanks for this info for pinion placement.  I just eyeballed my placement of pinion to maingear.  It didn't dawn on me that it fit into the lower bear bearing support.

EDIT---  And now I realized that it doesn't fit "in", It's "on".  Bearing block would be upside down if  it would sit in.

Check out the Scorpion Commander V series 130HV esc. It has a sbec built in and works with the Vbar gov.. I am using one in another heli with good results, and hope to put one in my newly purchased E6/E7 that I will soon be building.
