I am working on my second E5 kit.  Same issue as last time with the feathering shaft bolts being too tight.  With the first kit, I only removed one bolt and gave up on the other bolt.  However, after going through that ordeal, I just put everything back together intact after full inspection, as all thrust and radial bearings were assembled properly at the factory.  With the grease port design, one can make an argument that it is not necessary to remove the thrust bearings solely for the purpose of greasing.

Questions:
1) Have anyone found the thrust bearing oriented incorrectly from the factory in the E5 kit?

2) What test(s) can I perform to verify correct or incorrect thrust bearing orientation without directly inspecting the thrust bearings?

I have yet to come across any Synergy kit that I could not get get the head axle bolts out. Have you tried heating the head of the bolt? That is usually all that is necessary. Alternatively put the head intake freezer for a while. That may also do it.
Yes you do need to disassemble and check the thrust bearings.  Even though the grease holes are there initially I would pull and grease. There is no way of confirming the correct orientation of the thrust bearing races I am aware of unless they are pulled.

Cheers

Agreed, I had a call this afternoon with exactly the same questions only difference was for a Synergy E7 SE.  Get yourself a good set of "T" handled hex drivers they will pop loose.  Heat will ease the amount of torque necessary to break loose the Locktite.  To remove both bolts you will need a "Green Grippy", you can however service the entire head with only one blade grip bolt remove by sliding the entire head axle shaft out one side.  Eventually you are going to need a Green Grippy though might as well add it to your next order.  See the the tools and supplies link:  http://synergyrchelicopters.com/forum/index.php?topic=1195.0

Alan, LOL!  I only listed "Green Grippy" so he would buy the appropriate size.  Then again, the "redneck camo version" may be one size fits all (joking of course).  LOL!  Just make sure you pick up the appropriate size.

Well the redneck grippy is what we use. It does work for 8,9 and 10mm. Also has bottle opener on one end :-)  I bought several for my flying buddies last year at IRCHA

John, while i have yet encountered a head thst the bearings were wrong, I agree with alan, you need to pull apart for the first greasing  the port holes are just for maintenance.

I had that prob on the E7. I took one side apart, greased the bearing, put loctite on the screw, and let it sit over night and did the other side.

The green grippy is a must.  I couldn't get the feathering shaft loose without it.  And I was too worried to try the "put it in the oven" approach. Lately I have heard more and more about freezing it.

How often should you shoot some grease into the holes in the head?  I'm used to doing it every crash..... 8)

I asked someone the same question and I was told maybe around 250-300 flights.  How often are you crashing?
