What a day!
« on: September 14, 2013, 10:19:04 PM »
I think maybe Igor Sikorsky, himself, was looking down on me today because for the first time in a very long time I had an absolutely wonderful day of flying.  Yeah, I know, I'm a dork.  Anyway, I decided to concentrate on a single  helicopter, instead of taking two or three, and took my N5c out to my parent's house.  I spent the entire day out there just relaxing and flying.  I went through an entire gallon of 30% and brought my helicopter back in one piece.

Here's the field where I usually fly on the weekends.  My parent's house is to the left, in this picture, and on the other side of it is another field the same size as this one.  It's got corn in it right now, though, so I'm just flying in this mint field.  Bonus - my shoes will smell like mint all week...  :D

Awesome- what state is that?  Oh, and because I am curious, how does the N5C feel as compared to the E5 when airborne?

It's Idaho, even though it looks like one of the plains states in this picture. :)  The clouds and smoke from all the forest fires are obscuring the mountain range that's usually really visible facing the direction that I took this picture.  Unfortunately, you can't see all of the hops in the background, either.  I live in one of the few places in the U.S. where they're grown and the fields that haven't been harvested, yet, are pretty cool looking (and they smell amazing). But I digress...

Okay, back from getting myself a beer after I got myself all worked up thinking about hops.

My E5 flies quite a bit differently than my N5c.  My E5 is set up with 6S power, Rail 556 blades, and I run a head speed of close to 2500 rpm.  I run the N5C at 2150 rpm.  I imagine that a stretched E5 running Rail 606 blades would be a closer comparison but I've never run mine like that.  I really like that they both fly quite differently and I don't see myself stretching the E5.  It's just a blast to thrash on because it's got so much pop running the higher RPMs.  I had no idea if I was going to like the N5C, based on what I'd read in all the nitro vs. electric threads on the forums.  Without all the big batteries, the N5C is just really nice to fly and the nitro motor has really helped teach me better collective management skills.  The OS 55 makes plenty of power to really  move the N5C and prior to flying it I had absolutely no idea what collective management meant, LOL.  It's pretty amazing just how ridiculous the power is that these electric motors make because I really had no idea what kind of stupid things I was doing and just powering through until I got the nitro.  I like flying the N5C so much that as soon as I saw the videos of Matt flying the N7 I went out and bought everything I need to outfit one when they ship.  I got to see Matt and Nick Maxwell flying it in Snohomish and I'm even more excited about it.  That thing is just insane!

Great to hear you had a good day Rodney!
Envious. Weather was great here in TN but my wife insisted on a family trip so we went to Rock City.  I'm sure everyone has seen those signs in the south. "See Rock City". Usually on barn roofs. Well it is worth seeing if you are ever in the Chattanooga area.
Going with focusing on one Heli for a while is a good idea. I should do that but I am addicted to them all?

Cheers
Alan

Nice.  Rodney, you make me want to get a Nitro one day.  I've never had one though, so I am sure there would be a nice little learning curve to it.

I've had both and the E5 stretched is a FUN bird to fly no doubt!  But when I got a new to me N5c I just fell in love with the extra flight time!  MUCH different flying bird than the original N5.  Mine is setup fairly quick on cyclic I wanted to be able to have a faster flip/roll on the nitro to avoid having to feed in more collective when doing smackdown-ish stuff on the deck.  I had the E5s a little slower because I had tons of Collective power being electric so it hind sight I could have changed that now thinking about it.  But Im still learning the CGY750 also.  i.e. where to make changes that affect all axis' versus per axis'.  At first it was REALLY fast (N5c) so I backed down the head response from 4 to 3 and that seemed to do the trick but kept control feel at 4 (if thats right anyway) ...its a work in progress.  I'm currently running the YS60sr and its got some get up and go and its at 2100 on the head! It flys light with that motor no doubt, and I just feel so at home with a 600 nitro! :)  I shocked the heck out of a couple of our club members and they said I've never seen a 600 nitro move that fast!! haha

I'm not at the level of most to keep a 700n in a 200ft box, it just moves so quick and takes up alot of sky that I'm really thinkin on getting another N5c for a backup!! Whens that TT edition coming!!?? lol

I put new bearings in the OS55 this weekend and now it's running so smooth! Pretty windy today so I only burned a couple of tanks but the N5c is flying better than ever!
