Enlarging Canopy Holes
« on: September 19, 2013, 09:20:15 PM »
Looking for a best way not to mess up a beautiful canopy!  I have a reamer, but is it best to tape it up before tying to enlarge the holes, cut from inside, etc?

if the reamer is sharp you will have no problems doing from the outside  , tape is not necessary

I don't believe it makes a significant difference whether you ream from the inside or the outside of the canopy.

The usual recommendation is to (1) ream the front holes first, (2) make sure the front mounts line up, (3) line up the rear holes with a marker, (4) enlarge the rear canopy holes towards the marker.

I have never read of anyone using tape during the reaming process.

Hi,

The best way is to use a tapered canopy reamer, the reamer will make a very neat job of enlarging the holes in the canopy without damaging it. No tape is required just take it steady with light pressure and let the reamer to the work. Most reamers will have an incrimental scale so you can see when the correct diameter is reached.

Hope this helps,
