Hi Craig,
Couple of things i do when setting the gear mesh:
Make sure the pinion height is set correctly so that the pinion is flush against the bearing on the lower bearing support (See Picture).
I also use the paper method to mesh the pinion/main gear, it works extremely well. One thing to make sure when you mesh using this method is cut a strip of paper (Normal 80gsm copier paper is fine), about 10mm in width and as long as you want. Feed the paper in between the pinion and main gear and then push the motor towards the main gear but make sure you push both the motor mount and the lower bearing support together as pushing on just the upper motor mount or on the motor itself can cause an offset in the mesh.
If you need any help just drop me a message, i can give you my mobile number so you can give me a call if needed. I should also be in the shop on saturday so if you want to bring your E7 in i will take a look at it for you.
Hope this helps,
Ross
