E5 Setup Help
« on: October 03, 2012, 07:57:09 AM »
So I'm working on getting together my parts for an E5 and looking for some advice.  I currently have a goblin 630 I plan to strip for the electronics and sell as I just don't like the way it flies.  Wondering what all I could use on the E5.

For servos I have the Torq 9180 and 9188 combo.
BeastX FBL
Helijive 120
Scorpion HKIII 4035 - 560

I'm sure the motor is too much, but wasn't sure on the esc.  Would hate to just leave the jive laying around.

I see many are going with the 4025 1100 and was curious if that would be the motor if stretched to a 600.

The HeliJive will work fine on the E5. You could even use that motor if you wanted to run 12S. On 6S it would seem most are following in Matt's footsteps and getting the HKIII 4025-1100kv. I have heard a few planning to try the KDE 600XF 1200kv. Lots of good 6S motor options around.  The HKIII 4035-560 is a nice motor, could always sell it if you don't need it.

The Torq servos will be perfect, although on the E7 the Torqs required a shim to fit right, so that might be needed but nothing a little servo shim can't fix.

BeastX is a great FBL system, wouldn't hesitate to use the BeastX.

Congrats in advance on the E5. I don't know if you have gotten to see one in action in person yet, but it's a wicked little heli and I am DROOLING over the pictures daily  :o

I have the same motor in my 7HV so going to keep it or sell it with the goblin since I had to cut the shaft down.

Not sure if I want to do 6s or 12s.  The bigger disc appeals to me since I have the x5 already as a 550.  Might need to see if the 4035 560 will work on 12s.

I should get to see one in person soon.  Will already has his on order and once he gets his in and I look it over I'll be getting mine.

The 4035 560 is a 12S motor to get the headspeed right.  I am looking to get an E5 and go 12S with that same motor, a Castle 120HV, MKS equivalent servos to your Torq and an MSH Brain.  I will also be using 606 blades and an E6 boom.

Thats a HOT setup Chumley! I am working my way towards that myself.
Right now I am running a 4035-630kv motor on 10S 3850 packs. Clocked it with a
radar gun last weekend at 114mph. :)

It looked very smooth on 10S at the Georgia Heli Swarm and it looked to have much more power than I need, but unfortunately I already have a large supply of 6S 3000mah batteries.  I haven't run the numbers, but I'm guessing I will be giving the Castle speed controller a lot of headroom to govern the headspeed.  With the way this heli is built, I'm hoping it will still be around when I can handle the power it's capable of.

Thanks for spending the time discussing the E5 with me at the Swarm.

Hi all,

Still the same question regarding ESC for 6S setup in 550 size. I know that it depends on motor to be used and style of flying. I used to have a Trex 600 with stock ESC 100A on 6S setup with 600 blade without any issue. It was 2 years ago and know I'm flying a litle harder. I also had a Trex 550 with a Castle Ice 100A with 520mm blades, againt without issue.

If I take a 100A LV ESC, will it be risky ?

I'll take a shot at this -

I'm no Engineer, but my 6S Trex 550 with Castle 100A esc (LV) is hitting over 90 amps at times.  This esc is designed to handle up to 100A whereas the 80HV is only designed for up to 80A.  Seems to me, with the 80HV, you are leaving a lot of volts on the table, but running into (or over) the amp limits.  The ICE LV series can handle up to 8S so you are still leaving some volts on the table, but you are also not hitting the amp limit.  With the HV esc, you would be better off (in my opinion) to go to a higher voltage battery to lower your amp draw.  But, like I said, I'm no Engineer.

the 80HV is capable of handling spikes in the mid to low 100s for short periods of time. If you are going to be a stick banger, then I would agree 100+ should be used. For me, as a sport flyer, even on my X5, I am not seeing spikes above 100, so I am sure the 80a HV will be good. I will be ready to go 10 or 12s should I decide to go that route down the road.

Thanks for your thoughts.
I'm not a stick banger but I do mild 3D. My wish is to keep this bird with one 6S lipo and keep it in 550 size as I have a L600 3D in 12S that can go stretch.
But seriously, E5 is also perfect in 600 size and requiere smaller stick than my Logo.
So the choice of the ESC is not easy for sure.

I was pondering the same question, about whether 80HV would suit or go 100LV.

Im no stick banger either, however i decided to go the 120HV, for some relative piece of mind and leaving the door open for 10-12s down the road.

I have an 80HV sitting here which i was very tempted to use, however i think my common sense took over!!
I must be getting old!!

Are you going to use a BEC (CC Pro, Gryphon...) or direct LifePo ?
I intend to put my 120HV ESC with a CC Pro + Small Nimh 4,8V 800 mAh for safety.

Might want to look at the Scorpion Backup Gaurd.  I plan on using an HV-80 ESC, CC BEC pro with the backup gaurd.

Cheers

CC 80HV, you plan to fly it 12S then ?
