IMPORTANT - E5 Pinions
« on: November 30, 2012, 10:30:53 PM »
It just dawned upon me that some people may unknowingly try to use the E7 pinions on the E5. THIS WILL NOT WORK!! You will likely destroy the main gear if this is attempted.

The E5 helical angle is different. I changed this based on approximately 2000-4000 less watts being applied to the E5 transmission.

If you require something different than what is provided in the kit (12 and 14)....please ask your dealer to order E5 13T(305-013) or 15T(305-015) pinions. They just arrived today! :)

Thanks!

Matt

I have  an e5 with 119 main gear and hl4025-890. Can I run 15t or should I stay with 14t. and if I change to 15t should I change the tail gears. I use 6s 45c or 65c. my esc is 160.

With a 890kv motor on 6S, I'd be running a 15T pinion for sure.  Even then, you will still be limited to around 2300rpm.  Much less than 2300rpm and you probably do need to upgrade to the 4.5:1 tail ratio.

Thank you. Do you think it is better to by another motor instead of replacing the gearing. Let say 1100kv. Or 2300 is ok.

2300rpm is fine.  Some people run the E5 a little faster, around 2500rpm.  It just depends on how crazy you want it.  Faster headspeed equals lower flight time though.

To change the gears, you need the 54T and 12T spur gears.  I wouldn't bother unless tail performance is lacking for your flying style.
