FInished the E5 6s

Well it's now finished.  I thought I would have it done to fly on Saturday but I found myself rushing to get the FBL setup done and decided to shelve it and fly the E7, E5 Stretch and N5C.  Good thing I did.  I had set up the tail throw reversed.  I thought I had changed that in the Helicommand but evidently did not.  I would have likely caught this before flying on the preflight but I am glad I waited.

Here are the final wiring pics....

Details:

Control System Power is 2S 1500mah lipo running through a perfect regulator at 6V.
Scorpion backup guard on board.
Futaba SBus with Telemetry.  (Glad I went that route.  Telemetry is great!)
Helicommand HC3-SX
Servos are Align DS620 on  Cyclic and DS650 on the tail.
Motor is the Align 600MX 1220KV Long Shaft
ESC is the Scorpion Ice 100
Main power is a 4400mah Sky Lipo

I tried using the built in BEC on the Ice 100 but it could not handle the draw.  The voltage kept dropping and resetting the FBL unit.  The BEC is only rated at 5A.
I wanted to see how well stock TRex 550 components would work on the E5.

Flight test tomorrow with and luck.

Cheers
Alan

Looks great! Not as much room on the E5 as the E7? Having to mount things on the side frames. Or do you just prefer the easy access?

So without S buss using spectrum would add a bunch of wires between the helicommand and the receiver correct?
I have the same looking set up on my E7 with Futaba just don't have the radio? Looks way cleaner. Not to mention I don't think I got the Spectrum cable with the HC3SX when unpicked up this heli.

For now some things are externally mounted.  Receiver and Scorpion Backup.  Not sure if this one will remain 6S or go 12s.
The HeliCommand units can use Spectrum Sats.  That will make for a pretty clean setup.

Helicommand with satellites? Does the HC3SX act as the receiver with spectrum or do you need to have the receiver and the HC3SX on Spectrum?

Just need a couple of spektrum satellites. There are ports for those on the Helicommand. Signals from the sats are interpreted by the Helicommand unit.

Both of the other two E5s at my field have stock Align electronics (except for Scorpion motors) and they fly great.

Or the iKon/Brain.  With the ability of most FBL units to take Spektrum Satellites or Futaba S-Bus, it really cleans up some of the potential rats nest.

I'm looking forward to the flight report  8)

Wow been into this for a few years but missed this little no receiver nugget!
Guess that what you get from the out of the box helis. Even more excited about my choice. Have a receiver pack on the way and sats in the box can start setting up.

Maidened the E5 6S a little while ago.  Only a 4 minute flight in lot across the street.  After flying both version I have finally decided that the 6S 550 is my favorite configuration.  The stretch is nice but I liked the feel of the 550 better.  Very peppy.  Did some of my best tic tocs to date.  I am not sure about the 600MX motor.  It bogged on punch outs but that may be more of a battery issue.  The 4400 pack I used is getting close to end of life.  I am going to take a look at  numbers from the castle log.  Ultimately I will probably put the Scorpion 4025-1100 in it.

Cheers

Now I also have to admit something.  Got it out to the driveway and realised I hadn't installed the tail supports  ::)
Flew it anyway!  Putting those on now!
