E5 Transmission Block and Spur Gear !!!
« on: January 30, 2013, 03:04:41 PM »
Ok ,, Putting the frame together on my E5 and put the transmission block all the way forward as stated in the manual. Put the main gear , main shaft all lined up perfectly locked it down , pushed the transmission block all the way forward locked it down but still looks like there is to much play in the mesh of the trans block and the spur gear. Do i have to take it apart and file the holes for the transmission block to slid a little more forward ?

Thanks,
Rick

Hello!

What are you calling too much play? How are you checking the mesh?

Hi Rick,

There should be plenty of adjust-ability in the mounting holes for the tail transmission assembly to get a good mesh between the gears. I've always the slice of paper method between the gears to set gear mesh and have always found it to work well for me.

Hope this helps,
Ross

Hey Chris,

Been watching your vids nice job.. IMO its like 1/8 to 1/4 play when I hold the spur gear and slightly move it back and forth. It just looks to me that if I fly that way it will round out the big spur gear after a short period.. ??

I remember you saying you want a little play, but actually looking at the mesh it looks a little loose.

Thanks,
Rick

Update , the paper test was fine, I would like someone to look at the picture and verify this is correct. Just looks loose to me.

Thanks,
Rick

It's hard to tell from the picture. Did you Change the spur gear for increased tail speed?

I just looked at this on Rick's machine. It has a TON of backlash. You can rock the gear back and forth a lot (took a video, just need to upload it). The transmission block is forward as far as it will go, so I recommended for him to file out the holes for the transmission assembly so it can slide forward. I would guess it the teeth are maybe halfway engaged in comparison to it being properly adjusted.
