« on: June 24, 2013, 07:29:34 AM »
Ok setting up e5 on 6s 5000mah packs
Scorpion hkIII 4025-1100kv, 14t pinion

What is recommended head speeds?

I'm thinking idle1 be 3d/flight time headspeed

And idle2 be crazy!

Also with recommended head speeds can people give me there flight time?

Thanks in advance!

I just recently stretched mine but I was getting 4-1/2 minutes at 2250 on 4400mah packs.  That was on idle up 1.  On idle up 2 I ran 2350 and if I spent part of the flight there times dropped to 4 minutes.  That is also with the scorpion 4025.

Cheers

My 6S E5 was setup very similar to yours, 1100KV motor 14t pinion.

My IDLE1 was at 2350 and Idel 2 was 2500.  On 5000mAh packs I needed the 2500! But I found that with 4400mAh packs and 2350, it was ballistic! All the pop and power you could ever needed.

I should have mentioned I was using the 13t pinion.

I have the same motor and pinion but I use 5300 packs. Idle 1 is 2400 and Idle 2 is 2600. 2400 gives me more than enough for sport flying and 2600 give me the crazy performance and a 4:30 flight time.

Have you guys watched the video of Matt flying with 1100 headspeed?  Just don't know if i can try that!

Hi,
The kit comes also with 12T pinion.

What HS do you recommend in this case? Is it a good combination with 1100 kv and 6S 4400 mah pack?

I use 4400 packs with the 1100kv motor/12 tooth pinion and my head speed is governed at 2350 which is approximately 108% capacity of the  Castle ESC which is perfect. I get 5 minutes of good sport flying and when I come down everything is nice and just warm to the touch. I also have usually between 22 & 27% left in my packs putting me right at the 80/20 rule in regards to mAh.

I run the same as Brandon.   2350 and 4400,s.   Flight times are 4-1/2 - 5 for me.

I'm running a little bit higher head speed than Brandon and Alan but I'm running an 1175kv motor.  12T pinion with 6S 4400mAh packs.

Hi guys,

New here and looking to do a low headspeed version with 550 blades, so I know I need more rpm than Matt's 1100 on his stretch.

The headspeed calc I looked at says I can get around 1400 rpm with an 1100kv and a 12 tooth pinion governed to around 65%. is that a reasonable ask of an Ikon governor?  The performance that Matt's heli showed in that low rpm video is perfect for me. That's exactly the kind of flying I aspire to do.

Right now I'm a heli noob with a 450.  I want to move up in size ASAP to the E5 as soon as I find my feet.

Cheers,

Ken

I am not in the position of teaching anything to you guys. One thing is for sure. Extreme low HS flying is MUCH MORE difficult. You must have excellent collective managment and perfect confidence with the manouvers. You may try hovering with less risk of a blade stall though.

Pay attention also to the max pitch you reach in that flight condition. If you load the motor too much at low speed it can draw severe amperage, far above than your esc is sized for. This is questonable because I have never measured. Only theory.

I have a CC Edge 120 and the CC Vertigo 1175 kV motor with Pulse 6s 4100 mAh packs. With a 14T pinion I was turning 2650 rpm but got a little hot and had high A draw and about 3:15 flight time . I dropped down to 13T pinion and dropped 300 rpm to 2350 rpm, flight time are 4:00 min and temps & A draw are back to a normal range. Not as poppy but still has tons of power.
