Servo Install on E7se
« on: July 04, 2013, 05:47:13 AM »
The E6/7 manual does not show to use the rubber insulators but only the wege spaces. Do I need to instal the rubber or go with hard install?? Also on the "Auto Hub Shims" the instructions show 2 shims beweteen the auto and main gear. When I took mine apart it has 1 above and one below toward bushing, do i leave as is??Thanks.

I have seen people mount the servos both ways. I personally always use the rubber insulators.

As for the shims, they can go either way. Build as the kit came with one on top and one on the bottom. If the auto rotation gear doesn't spin free then move the bottom shim to the top.

Gary.
Do you have the SE manual? It does show one delrin shim on each side of the auto hub and a brass shim above the TT spur gear hub. That is the way I have mine set up.

I have always used the rubber grommets on the servos. In a crash I feel that they are of some benefit.  As long as you have sufficiently tightened the mounting screws you should see not see any issues.

Thanks guys I new I could count on you. I don't have a SE manual only the 6/7 TT tube conversion and the main build manual from this site.

Gary,

+1 for Alan ! you need the rubber for dampening.. and like he said in the event gravity wins, it will also help absorb the shock of impact and keep from breaking the servo case as well. ;)

Yes.  I have yet to break any gears on a servo (except some micro's) using grommets.  Now I have do go through a good number of servo wheels.  Much cheaper than replacing a servo or gears.  I have never been an advocate of metal servo horns for that reason.  Matt's design using the carbon fiber servo arms attached to a plastic wheel is the perfect solution!  Nice stiff linkages while still allowing the use of the plastic wheels.

Next question, cross brace that has larger cap screws and washers, what place does it go? Is it for the ESC'S mount upper screw due to lower front is canopy mount?? I don't have another synergy to look at that why I'm asking. Thanks.

Gary

It goes at the lower rear of the frame. The long bolts are for the boom braces.
Doesn't really matter as long as you get the long bolts in the correct place..

Soon as I sent I saw where they go but now the question is what servo horn do you use, round or 5/6 star for tail??

Small round for cyclic servos and I wise the 4 star for the tail in the outer most hole.

SGM, what servos are you using?  On the Futaba BLS 256 it's the four star for the tail.  The cyclic servos use small round disks (horns).
